The truth is that many of the genres and games we have today are the result of prestigious developers and publishers either come from oppressed communities or made raunchy and shocking material that offends mainstream tastes. And yet...

... it's often these same trailblazers who get thrown under the bus once companies need to secure capital/maintain a public image as their genre/medium goes mainstream. Those artists are then vilified by a mainstream that's constantly looking for a scapegoat to blame all social woes on.
When we make it impossible to make provocative games, we sanitize the medium and infantilize players.
