My view on Media Literacy has gone from “eh it’s fine but I wish people did better” to “this is an actual crisis with ripple effects we don’t understand yet” in the space of like 5 years.

Just general literacy and understanding is shot. Some of the YouTubers i see my oldest watching can barley read and are HS kids at their youngest.

See, there's the error these takes always make. Someone having a point does not prevent them from being a villain.

In fact a villain that doesn't have a point is kind of a bad villain, if you don't have a point you're just Snidely Whiplash tying people to train tracks.

I think there could be a compelling villain that is just a deeply broken psychopath whose wiring is just for whatever reason incompatible with life but that's almost never from what they're envisioning

and this has the motivations of little more than an animal
