There are many examples of good central planners. Would you argue that FDR made the depression worse? That his actions didn't save lives? We haven't seen a lot of good central planners in our lifetime, but they do exist.
FDR did prolong the depression and make it worse, and he got the nation involved in its second deadliest war.
I suppose you're right. He did make the depression worse in 1938 when he cut back on his New Deal policies.
It's not policies that are needed to grow an economy, it's freedom for supply to meet demand.
