one's an offshoot of the sci-fi/speculative fiction genres where the, like..... *speculation* is the whole point, the other is coming from the kind of fairy tales where Rumpelstiltskin is a metaphorical aesop instead of about the actual processes of turning string into gold
also a lot of complaints about plot holes or magic not being a well-explained system are actually complaining that the author poorly and very obviously wrote themselves out of a corner.
They are, but there's a certain type of fan who is incapable of realizing this
