I think that the dynamics of cutting out parents and cutting out children are very different. Typically with older conservative relatives you are having it on their terms. Their understanding of the relationship is "you must eat shit from me without complaint" So it's not hugely surprising that 1/2
they don't want to end the relationship. It's great for them! Often for their kids and nieces and nephews ending it is the only way that they can not have to deal with this crap. 2/2
Yep. And I don't think the people who whinge about it realise that cutting or limiting contact really is a last resort, for self protection.
