I wish more people participated in alt text on here. I forget that not everyone does because it's a norm on Fedi where I usually frequent.

It was a part of the culture here before invite codes were no longer needed. But it’s important to make this place (and the web) as accessible as possible.

Exactly! Every image I post I alt text myself. I just forget others might not because I'm sighted and fairly well abled in that department. Also, often times I hide little mini references in my elaborate memes so pointing them out to people that read the alt text is a nice reward for them too.

For me it's just habit at this point, but a feature like this is lovely. Idk if mastodon has it, but Sharkey prompts for extra confirmation when posting without alt text. I love that bsky has this though. It's a huge step up
