We can thank the Supremely CORRUPT Court of the US for giving us (1) "Citizens United" and (2) absolved a president of any crime.
This happens b/c in the late 2010s, Citizens United was passed by the Supreme Court essentially saying that money was free speech. It makes corporations people, but not when they have to pay taxes or are accused of murder.

It was the Supreme Court that decided it. It was incredibly thought about by the people who argued it.
It's not legal. Elon gets around it the way Trump gets around threatening political opponents. He insinuates what he's doing (vote buying) without quite using those words, and when he gets sued, he says that's not what he meant ("I just paid them to be a spokesperson"). apnews.com/article/wisc...
It should not be legal. I was a proud American when I was growing up because I didn't know any better. Now I do know, and what is happening to our country is shameful, embarrassing, criminal in many cases and just altogether wrong.
The wealthy have been pushing against progressive policies since 1930’s FDR (see Powell memo) justices like Alito, Thomas & Roberts are a result of Leonard Leo’s $2B Federalist Society promoting toxic federal judges. Citizens United paved way for billions in U.S. politics. 🤬
