The thing I like about Blue Sky is that I can quickly make the hate speech and disparaging comments go away by blocking or muting those who spew them out. Click.

It's like the Russian trolls were just WAITING for her to show up. Old habits die hard... Putin hates Hillary more than ANYONE.
It makes the job easier of weeding out the trolls. They come out like moths flying around a light bulb.
I know! It's been awhile since I've seen a thread with so many. It really helps to take a quick peek at their profile too, now I have a better feel for the type of profile they create to trick us... very different from the profiles they create to trick maga lol.
Yeah, BlueSky is something new in that people prefer to block trolls instead of engage them. I'd get exasperated on Twitter with people getting drawn into trollfests -- but here the trolls get blocked.
My thoughts exactly. And if what others told me is true, blocking means they don't have the privilege to see us ever again either, unlike blocking on Facebook and maybe elsewhere too.
That's unfortunately incorrect. Blocking hides you from the blockee on Bluesky, but that's Bluesky-specific; the underlying AT protocol makes all account activity public by design, so the blockee can use one of several alternate apps to view your account and activity.
Hmm. OK. I'm not on any other app anyway, so it's the same difference to me, I guess. What others apps use the BlueSky address as member ID?
I know SkySpace (Bluesky-based MySpace clone) is one such user-facing app that ignores Bluesky-level blocking. For those more programming savvy, at.tools lets you explore the raw data. For example, if I were to block you, you'd still be able to see all my info at atp.tools/at:/yellowap...
Cool! I'll save that tool. Mike's link: "What does blocking do? Blocking prevents interaction. When you block an account, both you and the other account will no longer be able to SEE OR or interact with each other’s posts." That sounds like the blockee can't see my future posts, doesn't it?
...And wouldn't that make sense? If you choose not to interact, why would you block your view that still lets that blockee see and then slander you on third parties? If you don't want to interact, the view really has to be blocked two-way.
That quote's specifically about the user-facing Bluesky app (bsky.app), rather than the underlying AT Protocol. As for *why* (almost) everything is public, it's because Bluesky/ATProto needs it to be for federation/decentralization to work.
For example: if Elon Musk somehow manages to buy Bluesky and run it into the ground like he's doing with Twitter, you and I would still be able to run our own servers and move all our data off of Bluesky's servers and onto ours, thanks to ATProto's federation features.
(To correct myself a bit: "all account activity" excludes chat messages as far as I know. But posts, replies, reposts, and likes are all still public.)
Chats are private and can be blocked. I know for sure a chat block is two-way. How do you know this, RyNo? is it published somewhere?
Hillary triggers “cloaked MAGA” like no one else does. I’m glad she’s here, because it’s a litmus test to be able to purge those from my feed that have some sort of ulterior motive to try and scuttle the obvious anti-MAGA momentum. Musk is actually doing what he accuses Soros of doing. Guaranteed
OTOH, there are valid reasons to be mad at her. She ran a bad campaign, and was deeply disliked before she ever threw her hat in the ring. Even if she won, she'd be a milquetoast center-right president. Better than trump? Absolutely, but an empty chair is better than trump.
Fair criticism shouldn't be rejected just because you personally like the person. She was never a good candidate, let alone nominee. (Also, she pisses off people on the left because she's, at best, a rich self serving center-right numpty who lost to trump)
Valid reasons and fair criticism are parts of normal dialogue and conversations about politics, and are always welcome. I’m all for that, always. But the ones that lash out with bile and vitriol are insta-banned, I’m out of patience and have no time to engage with that anymore. It’s a waste of time.
In the US, women didn't get the right to vote by politely asking. Disabled people didn't get protections by patiently waiting. You can choose to not interact with them, but civility can be just as toxic. Civility is a set of restrictions, and like any restrictions, it prevents people from acting.
Women got the right to vote AFTER they did some firebombing. The ADA passed AFTER access to the Capitol was blocked. Neither of those were "civil" because "civility" is often a weapon of the oppressor, it encourages people to act a certain way in fear of being labeled "uncivil." Be uncivil.
They are losing their 💩 from looking at the comments. About time for a block party.
“Block party”. I like that.
I’m actually enjoying blocking these MAGA-adjacent trolls. It’s quite cathartic
🎯👍🏼
Yep. I blocked over half a dozen from her thread today.
Pacific blues Exactly!!! Bingo!!! How many of these haters are musk bots or the same Russian propagandists from 2015? ❤️ Attacking hillary = block nice to hillary= friend me ❤️
🎯 yep, the cockroches🪳 are revealing themselves👊🏼🚫
Agreed. The only other person that triggers them more is Hunter Biden, and especially if he has BlueSky on his “laptop from hell” as MAGA calls it.
Hunter triggers them in a different way. With uncomfortable feelings and unceasing thoughts about his hog.
🤭👍🏼
🎯
Yep same here. Some people are fools.
Add me to the list. Block everyone who disagrees with you til you get your echochamber.
Good advice! I will do the same 😊
Yes. And I just learned that if I mute/delete the first post in the thread, the entire thread responding to that post also disappears. (If this is common knowledge, my apologies. I'm new at much of this.)
This is a great page to root out the evil. Thanks Hillary.
Same!
True. But better to report them and have them removed.
