This glaze (same glaze on all of them. I know, I know) is a recipe I got from the studio owner, and there it’s simply called “Teal”, which is fine but I think we could do better. Any ideas? Something teal, or teal something?

Apple TV is so stressful. Every show has the worst synopsis you’ve ever read and stars two of the most famous Hollywood actors. Absolutely no way of sorting out the good from the terrible.
I find music a very intense thing, even music I like, it takes up like 60% of my mental capacity, it’s not a passive experience for me at all. Music I don’t like is just so draining. I might cry.
I slept really badly because the church near us inexplicably holds loud services overnight on a Friday (like 11pm-6am, with full PA system, drums, the lot). Then, ridiculously, I was awoken by AN OWL. Cleaned the bath, lit a candle, got in… next door have chosen this moment to blast generic pop.
Ok the wet clay portion of this is almost done. I have one more day, I think, and then it’s just firing and glazing stuff. Tomorrow.
I am really, really trying to finish this project I started and it is very hard to get myself to do the final push and not wander away to start something fresh!
Been for a swim, didn’t do too badly, got a (microwave, but still) curry & naan, a cold Pepsi max and The Godfather Part II. Not bad work.

My swimming pool currently has no lane ropes. It’s a three lane, 20m pool, the fast lane is in the middle. This is going to go very, very badly.

I have been to therapy, which was at least semi-productive (no mean feat with my panicky body atm) and am now walking back in the rain, which smells very good.
Picked up a little pendant at the ceramic fair at the weekend, bought myself a new chain. I’ll probably wear the chain often & the pendant just sometimes.

Not if it’s already been fired once, no. People use sintered glaze as additives in clay; I imagine there’s some testing but as a general rule it’s not introducing any liquid
Small wins: this week I managed a GP appointment and a haircut, despite the not-remotely-abating panic I’m facing at every turn. The former was just a clusterfuck, the latter took a triple PRN and was still terrible, but they are both done.
You do sometimes have to enforce the rest/napping, they are not v good at it!
It mightn’t be minor enough but I have cubical tunnel so I must swim less (none) front crawl only I have a bad knee made worse by breaststroke and walking so that’s basically everything. And I have PMT so I’m furious 😬😂

Aside from therapeutically smashing them, are there any uses for pieces of pottery that are not up to scratch? I am not likely to bother with mosaic stuff honestly, and I can’t imagine it’s worth the postage for anyone who is?

Ceramics has you realising you have to think about where cobalt is coming from and trying to sub local ingredients in glaze recipes when a single mine in California runs out and closes!
This is a good point. Raw materials are subject to import in some cases so you can imagine what that’s like atm!
Up to now I’ve operated a policy of ‘if you can’t afford this, contact me and we’ll work smth out’, but that’s probably less feasible if I move to a website. I will continue to think about it though. In the meantime I shall have to bite the bullet and decide on a pricing structure!
I think the balance is that what I make is a luxury (shouldn’t be, but is) and I don’t like the idea of pricing out my peers. But that might be something I cannot reasonably accomplish.

Yeah, I would hope the ME community of all groups would know better than to perpetuate the kind of harmful ideas that have been levied against them incessantly. But it is complex, me/cfs is largely in this hole because of a handful of prominent UK psychiatrists using just that framing.
The ‘we are REALLY sick’ crowd can get to fuck, obviously. There’s like a hundred reasons to campaign for the truth about me/cfs to be found & well known, and none of it needs to mention validity at all
Validity is a nonsense framing for this really. The assertion of me/cfs as solely/primarily psychological in nature has done untold harm, and is still a huge problem, one that affects treatment and research.

I made this little cup as a tester for various things, and it’s far from perfect (need new lettering for a start), but it’s quickly become my new favourite thing.

Ah this sucks. I am not a handle expert but my teacher basically just uses water, and barely any of it at that, and his seem fine, doesn’t babysit them really at all. Worth trying less is more approach wrt slip maybe?

Duckweed testers… so much promise over the dolomite but it wants to crawl… unsure whether to risk it on smth larger… didn’t crawl last time… hmmm
The dolomite white is still too thick — actually already fixed this for next time — but the spearmint with the change is MUCH better. Look at the contrast; so pleased I made a fresh batch with amended ingredients. And the dipping version of that nice blue is… idk man, idfk
The iron red is happy and lovely on the outside, miserable inside the lid, not entirely sure what to amend there yet. Transparent still working beautifully, the inside of this bowl was a clusterfuck 😂
These two were *almost* perfect - both came out with a tiny smattering of blistering. White I could fix in application, but it’s not a glaze I’m going to keep making. Underglaze is a WIP.
Just finished another glaze firing! Learning a lot. These were successful! The blue is a paint-on glaze though, so I hope to replace that with one I can make myself. The teal is performing well. I need better letter stamps.

Anyone have an opinion on ‘slow’ vs ‘medium’ bisque firing? Nothing is thick or sculptural or remotely wet, so I’ve been choosing medium because it’s more convenient and seems fine, but figured it’s worth an ask! FWIW: small electric Skutt ^04 #pottery #potters

Hooooo my body is not happy. I get “overuse” injuries all the time despite doing almost nothing, but not usually all at once. The cubical tunnel is a constant but rn I also have a knee I can’t go up a step on, a sore hip on the other side and my back is stiff, threatening to spasm.
Took my cubical tunnel arm and my inexplicably bad knee for a swim and came out with a sore hip flexor 😂
Glazing aside, the wax burner deep dive is all but done. What will I throw next 🤔
Gave the consultant my wife’s phone number and explained that I do not answer or talk on the phone so she’s booked a telephone consultation 👍🏼

I don’t think these will become part of my regular rotation of things to make, but since someone requested one I tried a bunch of different styles. These are the last four of nine total.
I’m perfectly content to be that way with combinations etc but at the moment I’m still developing glazes right from scratch, it’s that steep curve combined with my general apathy for the thing 😂
