In the north of England, we have the Gabble Ratchets (or Gabriel Hounds) an airborne pack of spectral dogs. Sometimes human-headed, always a source of terror, to hear their yelping as they pass over your house presages disaster. #FolkyFriday #PhantomsFriday 🎨 Katie Marland www.katiemarland.com

According to a Flemish folktale, a derelict house was haunted by a murderer in the shape of a dog. The dog's eyes glowed like lanterns, and the animal jumped on people’s backs, forcing them to carry the spectre to the place where the murder had been committed. #FolkyFriday #PhantomsFriday

According to a Flemish folktale, the devil agreed to build a church in exchange for a man's soul. When the church was finished, the man refused to give his soul because there was no cross on the spire. All hell broke loose. The town was flooded with devils who destroyed the building.
