We flew back from Biarritz. The coach from Bilbao to Biarritz was like €5 each or something silly, so made sense. We were only there a couple of days. It was ok but the difference is marked and I guess it fancies itself as upmarket. I'd like to see more of both sides.
Best place we stayed was a little hotel that had a bullfighting school attached and it served the best home cooked food imaginable. Amazing. Sorry bull lovers.
Must confess it was too exhausting and we ended up having a two night stay in Lekeitio after that and finished most of the last part on the bus to Bilbao! I've lost four stone and started running in the 15 months since so I think I'd like to try again - all about the preparation.
We did El Camino del Norte from Hondarribia to Bilbao last year and saw absolutely nothing untoward anywhere. Only courtesy, hospitality and a warm welcome right across the route. The Basque people can look stern and offish but they're actually the opposite - we love it there. And as for the food..😋
San Sebastian and it's suburbs are very civilised in my experience. I'm not sure why someone is going on about delinquency. Like you I'm a big fan of the Northern Spain regions particularly Asturias where we once had family.
