Haha my wife and I stayed overnight once, just to do it! We just got the cheapest room and discovered what steerage meant lol—you don't realize the importance of a window until you sleep in a room without one! It was fine, but not for the claustrophobic!

I was at the Stones concert at the LA Coliseum where a relatively unknown Prince was one of the opening acts and was notoriously booed off the stage, with some throwing bottles at the stage.
Black’s late mom was my neighbor, so I saw him whenever he came by to visit! Chatted with him a few times—about 20 years earlier, when I was at UCLA, I saw him in a play there (I think he attended only briefly).

I was listening to a podcast (wish they could remember which show they were speaking about), but they specifically mentioned this trope, referencing how writers/shows don’t have the confidence in simply telling a good story. That said, it is an old adage to “start in the middle of a story.”
Recently saw the Jack Kirby exhibition at the Skirball Cultural Center museum in L.A.! Plenty of original art, and a fitting tribute to his life, visionary imagination, and impact on comics and modern culture and mythology.

Back in the day, I sent Toth samples of my work and briefly struck up a correspondence with him. I never had the nerve to go see him, though I lived only 10 miles away (I'd heard many admiring cartoonists made unsolicited pilgrimages to see him.) I keep one of his postcards framed in my studio.

I briefly met actor Thomas Lennon at Comic-Con last year when he came by my table—then the next month, I spotted him seated near me at a local Shakespeare in the Park event in LA lol! I didn’t want to bother him but said hello and that we met at SDCC—we ended up chatting, he couldn’t be nicer.
Tons since I live in LA—James Woods at a restroom in a movie theater (saw him again on the street another time when he yelled something obscene from a car to Jon Lovitz across the street); Daniel Baldwin at a restaurant table next to us made baby talk to our baby daughter who he said was adorable.

As a fan of the film, I saw the recent production of Glengarry Glen Ross on Broadway with Bob Odenkirk. The film had a humanity and dark humor that made it seem like a dark satire of male toxicity. Watching the play (which differs from the film), I realized Mamet was more serious lol.
Even with a college/post graduate degree I became financially literate later in life, on my own. I always ask first if a loan has a prepayment penalty. That said, I’m sure they received such an onerous loan due to predators targeting their race and class. This is truly sickening.

Delighted to see Maybe Happy Ending win Best Musical at the Tony Awards! We went to NYC in April to see several shows and added it without knowing much about it—now we feel very fortunate that we did, with Darren Criss also winning Best Actor in a Musical! Saw him a few nights later signing outside!
We were fortunate to see Good Night and Good Luck on Broadway back in April and I was equally mesmerized by the live broadcast of the production last night—they did a great job adapting it for TV/streaming! And now I have a recording that preserves my memories of the play.
Saw M:I-Final Reckoning opening weekend and loved it! Back in Rob Hanes Adventures #24, I actually loosely based an actor character in the issue on Tom Cruise—much to Rob's chagrin, he portrays Rob in a tv streaming series based on Rob's adventures. wcgcomics.com

It's interesting that you ask this bc my son is a gamer and I am so not (in fact, he reviews them online as a side gig). He is always extolling to me the story content of video games and their cutscenes, sometimes showing them to me (invariably leading to debates about the story and acting lol).

I saw Flash Gordon and, no, it is not good. It does have its fans and a cult following, I'm sure mostly for its campiness. The Spirit pilot/film was intended for network tv...so very low rent and flat. Network clearly didn't understand the character. I think they did use Eisner art in transitions.

I don’t know how historically accurate it is, it comes off more as a period action drama rather than a biopic. But terrific production design and performances—not only Oyelowo, but also Donald Sutherland, Barry Pepper and especially Dennis Quaid.
