I went into this series thinking I was supposed to like Carmella Soprano, as well, but there is nothing about her that is redeeming. My sense is that the second they get a great character arc, they whack the person. I was really loving Frankie Jr. I thought that when Dr. Melfi was attacked, there would be some sort of pulling in to the mob. BUT! Nope! She kept her integrity which, in real life, is good. In a show? BORING!
I just don't see there being much of a plot. I read one article that suggested that the entire show is more a nihilistic commentary on life. I tend not to love nihilistic art, generally, because it feels so bleak as to be pointless. I thought we would see more from Dr. Melfi's character.
