First day was a success—a couple of mild meltdowns, but we had distractions and (new) snacks ready. And lots of cuddling…

Songs on the playlist so far: •El Cerrito Place - Keith Gattis/Kenny Chesney •Better Boat - Travis Meadows/Kenny Chesney •Long Time Gone - Darrell Scott/The Chicks
Tim Brackett (@refundpolicy.bsky.social)
I’m creating a playlist of songs recorded by country singer-songwriters that didn’t chart but were later covered by another artist and hit the charts, which has led me this evening to the fantastic album Big City Blues by Keith Gattis.

Proud of Rep. Jordan for standing on principle here. We are so fortunate in NE Minneapolis to have fantastic representation at almost every level of our government.

Today is our child’s last day of breastfeeding. Please keep our family in your thoughts and prayers over the next couple of days. 😑
Tim Brackett (@refundpolicy.bsky.social) reply parent
Cooler overall, but I would guess it’s pretty close in the 21st century though.
Tim Brackett (@refundpolicy.bsky.social) reply parent
This is so true and I thought of something similar while bike commuting to work this morning. So many drivers only feel like they have any control in their lives when they are behind the wheel of a vehicle and active transportation takes some of that feeling of control away from them.
Tim Brackett (@refundpolicy.bsky.social) reply parent
No problem and good luck
Tim Brackett (@refundpolicy.bsky.social) reply parent
Yes 🙁. I always asked for ice packs and used them during the half-hour wait after the shots and the itchiness was gone by the end of the half-hour. I think they have cream too though
Tim Brackett (@refundpolicy.bsky.social) reply parent
I did allergy shots for 3 years. So worth it—including the itchy arms.

Yet another example of how effective SRTS Coordinators have at least a working knowledge of multiple disciplines.

I’ve had a crash course in understanding how street construction projects are completed as Richfield has been working on two Safe Routes to School infrastructure projects this summer. This is one area where my previous career as a machinist has helped—because it helps me understand the blueprints.
Tim Brackett (@refundpolicy.bsky.social) reply parent
No worries—just hope everyone is ok.
Tim Brackett (@refundpolicy.bsky.social)
Folks using a 529 college savings plan—who do you use and/or recommend? Anyone using MNSaves and willing to share their experience?
Tim Brackett (@refundpolicy.bsky.social) reply parent
Exactly. I want to save the planet, etc. but I’m only going to spend all day on a train instead of a few hours on a plane if I’m saving money.
Tim Brackett (@refundpolicy.bsky.social) reply parent
🙁
Tim Brackett (@refundpolicy.bsky.social) reply parent
Makes sense—I guess after having the freedom to travel off-peak so much of my life I’m getting used to being bound by daycare/school calendars now. 🙁
Tim Brackett (@refundpolicy.bsky.social) reply parent
I thought this is train trip was $45 each way. Why would the average person ride a 7-hour train when they could fly in 1 hour, 40 minutes for the same price. Did I miss something here?
Tim Brackett (@refundpolicy.bsky.social) reply parent
Scratch that—we didn’t realize it would cost $600 for 3 people to take the train to Chicago and back. That’s just ridiculous.
Tim Brackett (@refundpolicy.bsky.social) reply parent
Ooh I learned the too many details in the budget lesson the hard way too 🙁
Tim Brackett (@refundpolicy.bsky.social) reply parent
I enjoyed the engagement portion of our planning grant—but agree that we probably could have done it ourselves. At least now we have another document supporting our respective case(s).
Tim Brackett (@refundpolicy.bsky.social) reply parent
Oh god I had stipends in last year’s boost grant and that did not go as expected—and I get paid to do this everyday—I can only imagine how tough it was for you. 🙁
Tim Brackett (@refundpolicy.bsky.social) reply parent
Ah that makes sense. You are correct that the process should be easier. With one of our schools we were able to skip the demo project phase and it will still be a 3-year process before the new infrastructure is installed.
Tim Brackett (@refundpolicy.bsky.social)
Folks who have taken the Borealis train from MSP to Chicago, any recommendations on seating arrangements for a family of 3 that includes a 2-year-old?
Tim Brackett (@refundpolicy.bsky.social) reply parent
What type of SRTS grants are you running? SRTS demo project grants and SRTS infrastructure grants have allowed us to make permanent infrastructure improvements for student families who walk and bike to our elementary schools here in Richfield.
Tim Brackett (@refundpolicy.bsky.social)
I’m excited to be a co-host for this event and do my part to send council President Payne back to city hall. Please consider donating to this fundraiser if you value living in a ward/city that moves forward.

I wonder if fear of the Feds pulling funding dollars is driving this. If so, we should push county to adopt Orange option and develop back-up funding plan OR delay the entire project until they have more certainty about the federal funds and can move forward with the Orange option.
Tim Brackett (@refundpolicy.bsky.social) reply parent
Yes! This is the way.
Tim Brackett (@refundpolicy.bsky.social) reply parent
Richfield had to find backup funding and get council approval before moving forward with our TAB-funded SRTS project. Could be that the advocacy angle here is finding a back up funding source in case the fed dollars fall through—if that fear is reason given for this concept design
Tim Brackett (@refundpolicy.bsky.social) reply parent
Is there a chance this concept design was influenced by new guidelines for federal grant-funded projects?
Tim Brackett (@refundpolicy.bsky.social) reply parent

Tim Brackett (@refundpolicy.bsky.social)
I’ve been noodling on this idea for a couple of years now: would a 311-type app that forwarded pictures of fleet vehicles parked in bike lanes to the insurer of said fleet vehicle work to eliminate fleet vehicle drivers from parking in bike lanes?

If it was the south rim, it might be even in our current news environment. The north rim isn’t the same tourist draw—which is why I liked it—as the south though, so I understand the lack of national news coverage.
