Trump and Republicans are hoping that by renaming the "One Big Beautiful Bill," you'll ignore that this legislation means 99% of Americans will make LESS after-tax money. They're taking your money, giving it to the 1%, and praying you won't notice. www.americanprogress.org/article/new-...

🚨 Update from the ongoing Appropriations Committee debate we’re having about funding for labor, health, and education

If we want to have a healthy, growing economy long-term, we need an educated workforce. If we want our country to remain competitive for generations to come, we need to invest in our public education system.

Republicans are refusing to give educators across the country the financial support they need, especially when it comes to Title I funding that provides money to some of the poorest districts in America. In El Paso, we could lose up to a thousand teachers without Title I funding.

I don’t understand why we can’t come together and fund education in our country. Instead, Republicans are dismantling the very system meant to prepare our children for the future.

The court has effectively legitimized discrimination under the guise of law and order, given government-sanctioned racism a green light, and, again, abandoned its duty to protect the rights of all people.

The Israeli Government has killed nearly 270 journalists, including the 5 killed today, in less than 2 years. Mass starvation, indiscriminate killing of civilians, the inhumanity, bloodshed and war crimes must end. The world - starting with the U.S. - must condemn and end this catastrophe.

Gaza belongs to the Palestinian people, not the Israeli government. People are starving right now. Providing food, water, and medical aid should be Israel’s priority - not enforcing an illegal and brutal occupation.

We should all be deeply disturbed by the Trump Administration’s targeting of Dreamers across the country. The recent news that immigration activist and DACA recipient Xóchitl Santiago, who has lived, worked, and contributed to our community, has been detained by Customs and Border Patrol and remains in ICE custody demonstrates that this is happening in El Paso as well. DACA recipients have earned the legal protections they’ve been provided by the federal government. They must meet strict conditions in order to participate in the program, they are our neighbors, our coworkers, and our classmates. Detaining them sends a chilling message to millions of immigrants who call this country home. I will continue to demand accountability, transparency, and an end to the targeting of DACA recipients in El Paso and across the country.

Instead of focusing on helping grieving families who lost everything in the floods, instead of preparing our state for the next emergency, he's doing the bidding of a president who is afraid of his voters and wants to rig the next election.

Despite firing the Bureau of Labor Statistics Commissioner, Trump cannot hide the fact the economy is sputtering because of his policies. Trump firing the commissioner is nothing more than a wannabe king throwing a tantrum for being exposed to the truth.

#ElPasoStrong always.

Today, we remember the 23 lives taken from us on August 3, 2019. We continue to grieve with their families and loved ones, and we honor the impact they each made in this world. It is impossible to think of August 3rd without recognizing that this horrific violence did not happen in a vacuum. In the days and years before the shooting, Donald Trump so repeatedly demonized Latinos that the man who drove over 10 hours to target our community believed he was fulfilling the president’s wishes. Trump’s hateful rhetoric created fertile ground for extremists to justify violence against innocent people. As we remember the victims, we must continue fighting the dehumanizing rhetoric that breeds hate and violence, especially when it’s comes from those in positions of power and influence. Words matter. There is so much the country can learn from El Paso — our resilience, our kindness, our generosity and warmth. May the memories of those lost six years ago be a call to action to pursue the highest ideals of justice, empathy, and above all, love. “I want that Republican representative being my member of congress.” You can vote for a Republican or a Democrat, but you’re not picking your politician here – quite the opposite. This politician is picking you. And he’ll be hundreds of miles away from you.

“How does the proposal affect El Paso?” The map strips major parts of El Paso County, all of Fort Bliss, our airport, and the new VA Health Care Center (that I was able to secure $700 million in funding for) from our boundary and gives it to a Republican 500+ miles away.

“Why is Trump doing this?” Midterm elections happen next year, and he’s worried that Republicans who voted to gut your healthcare to pay for tax breaks for millionaires with his “big, beautiful bill” will lose their races. So he wants to rig the next election via redistricting.
