Eliminating STEM programs that presumably have close to 0 marginal cost to run (because the classes are already offered & staffed for other degree options) has to be one of the silliest higher ed policies happening right now
And the short argument for why to keep them is that they provide alternatives for students at a very low cost given that you are already going to teach the classes it needs. By killing them you might just make the BS harder to keep.
Usually a BA is embedded in a liberal arts degree while a BS is embedded into a more engineering/tech degree. BA makes sense if you want to double major, BS makes more sense if you want to go be an actuary.
I have a BA in Math. A BS would have taken too many additional credits given that I was also majoring in Political Science and the BS required credits the BA didn't.
