What I love most about Bill is that he retired. Made some timeless music, wrote some indelible songs and then stopped. No comeback album, no insipid duets with idiots half his age, no final farewell tour. Put up a massive innings, declared and went back to the pavilion unbeaten.

Really enjoyed the Evie Hone and Mainie Jellett exhibition at the National Gallery of Ireland. Two remarkable Dublin women artists born within three years of each other near the end of the 19th century. Bold, forward looking work from the 1920s onwards. Well worth a look.

Picking out some vinyl to spin at The Big Romance in Dublin on Wednesday night (9th April) If you like roots reggae and 80s indie/alternative, I reckon you'll have a tip-top, toe-tapping time of it. Free in. Fab venue, mighty sound-system, dead sound people. Come along and bring a friend.

The new 4 x 45rpm vinyl box set of 'The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway' will set you back a tidy £179 from Amazon. For that price I'd want the lamb and a lifetime supply of wool thrown in.
