I think generally speaking, shortages of drivers, poorly located schools, distance limits on who *can* ride the bus to cut costs, and long routes keep a lot of parents for utilizing buses, are issues. In this case, it seems mostly to be parent preference. Buses seem to be available to families.

The fact that villainizing trans people and making them the center of a nationwide campaign to legislate them into non-existence is popular doesn't make your views moral or rational or reasonable. You're just a bigot. A scared, cruel, hateful bigot who hurts other people for your own comfort.

The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of retribution, said Mr. Kennedy summoned Dr. Monarez to his office on Monday and demanded that she resign. When she refused, Mr. Kennedy demanded that she remove the agency's top leadership by the end of the week. Dr. Monarez then called Senator Bill Cassidy, the Republican chairman of the Senate health committee, who in turn called Mr. Kennedy, according to the official. Mr. Kennedy, furious, summoned Dr. Monarez to a second meeting on Tuesday and accused her of The official said Dr. Monarez spoke to other senators as well. On Wednesday, a White House official told Dr. Monarez that if she did not resign by the end of the day, President Trump would terminate her. The four high-ranking agency officials who did resign are Dr. Debra Houry, the C.D.C.'s chief medical officer; Dr. Demetre Daskalakis, who ran the center that issues vaccine recommendations; Dr. Daniel Jernigan, who oversaw the center that oversees vaccine safety; and Dr. Jennifer Layden, head of the office of public health data.

And to be clear: that's pretty much the ONLY messaging I've heard from Democrats since November 2024. They have no platform, no goals, no principles. Just endless running from fights and begging for money from people they keep giving the middle finger.

Democrats not only have zero interest in listening to anything I, or people like me, have to say, but also they see my views, my principles, and my goals as running counter to their own aims. If they keep telling me I'm a liability, WHY SHOULD I VOTE FOR THEM?

I keep seeing a certain brand of centrist on here claiming that progressives are falling for divisive rhetoric intended to keep us from voting, but the only divisive rhetoric influencing me right now is the messaging the Democratic party keeps aiming at voters exactly like me.

I'm tired of showing up for every election, no matter how small, to vote for folks who keep moving further to the right and routinely scold engaged, reliable Democratic voters like me for being mad about it. For expecting them to have principles. For expecting them to actually HELP people.

I'm tired of being told Democrats' problem is that progressives' purity tests are too pure, and that we just need to get over ourselves and our ideals, expect little, and vote blue. Somehow this logic never applies to those who won't vote for Democrats because Dems might know what a pronoun is.

Have they condemned Israel's ethnic cleansing of Palestinians from the occupied territories? Nope. In fact, they've joined Republicans in condemning protests of Israel's actions--and US support of them--as "antisemitism" and even go along with crackdowns on first amendment rights on these grounds.

Have Democrats done anything about attacks on voting rights across red states? No. When Texas legislators fled to DC to get support, they had to beg to get anyone from the national party to meet with them.

Have Democrats had anything to say about attacks on free speech, academic freedom, or attacks on research that violate the ideological purity of the right-wing authoritarians in charge? Nope.

Are they willing to defend the most vulnerable in our society? Ethnic, racial, and religious minorities, LGBT folks, unhoused people? Nope. Do they have any sort of actual roadmap to restore reproductive rights in the US? Do they care about women at all? Given their endorsements of Cuomo...no.

I just can't figure out what the Democrats' value proposition is. Are they fighting Trump's attacks on democracy? No. Are they protesting Trump's human rights abuses, with masked, badgeless thugs kidnapping people off the streets? No. Do they have a coherent economic agenda? Also no.

I just don't understand what I'm supposed to be voting for if the standard Democratic position is "we're happy to argue some people shouldn't exist so long as they're powerless enough for us to get away with it."

Also the only performative LARPing happening here is Democrats vice signaling to win over right-wing voters by raiding homeless encampments, attacking trans people, calling for more cops in cities where Trump has deployed the military, and years of immigration crackdowns and deportation sprees.

My guess is the actual reason Democrats lose elections is because they spend all their time listening to what consultants and major donors whisper in their ear, or clutching their pearls over right wing media, instead of caring what THEIR OWN VOTERS want.

The "centrist"'s response to someone pulling up YEARS of data showing Democrats don't actually say any of Third Way's banned terms is "Yes, they do. I don't have to prove it. I've got ✨VIBES✨ on my side, and THAT'S the rational take!"

M. Boyd Riley skeets: Seeing so many radicals roast rational people like Tom and Sarah Longwell for advising Dems to talk like normal people and stop acting like stilted purebloods is driving me nuts because they're going to be the reason why JD Vance is going to be the next president. Or worse--another Trump. Asking for specific examples seems disingenuous b/c we all know it's been going on for yrs. I'm not going to sit here & try to Google up specific examples. You know it's happening. Kamala Harris playing the pronoun game is just one of many. It's performative virtue LARPing. Just fight for equality.

Perhaps also a downstream consequence of just how quickly the assassination of Democratic lawmaker by someone impersonating a police officer disappeared from mainstream media.

Imagine being in the middle of a fascist takeover the government, and the best advice you've got as a highly paid consultant to the opposition party is "your problem is words, and if you just avoid these words, you'll win elections."

If the recommendation to Democrats was to speak plainly, casually, like a normal person having a real conversation rather than like a politician stumbling through jargon, they’d be gushing about Mamdani and telling Dems to be more like him. But they’re not, because they really mean something else.

Living in Minneapolis is more expensive than living in the suburbs, so it makes sense they should pay their workers more. "We have to pay our workers enough to be able to live here" is the entire premise of a LIVING wage.

I would add though that centrists and Republicans who make an issue of big words Dems don’t really use generally pull them from either academic or activist contexts, and the silencing of people in those realms is not, in the age of grants being cancelled by word search, an incidental side effect
