We need more of this from the MSM, not just what he dodged in stamp duty, but how much tax he's dodging by paying his GBNews income into a private company (25% instead of 40%), how much he's earning from off shore Texas oil cos, or private equity vultures after our NHS, etc, etc. #makeFaragetetchy

The Brexit question was a simple choice, yes or no. That was part of the problem. You may have a point, but I'm not sure there's any legal requirement for a referendum in this case. We don't have a written constitution, so theoretically a govt with a massive majority could just introduce PR anyway.
Rose Byrd (@rosame.bsky.social) reply parent
Fair comment, and it is a tricky one, although the ConDem referendum on AV got nowhere because it was too complicated and ppl didn't get it. According to this article STV looks like the best option to me, with FPTP the worst! Global Ranking of Electoral Systems share.google/08jDA7sNMupi...

It's no good banging on about the economic and moral disaster Farage's immigration policy would be, or the ECHR. The 'patriotic' mob don't care. His hypocrisy about taxes, and lavish earnings from GBN but absence from Clacton etc, etc, that's his Achilles heel. Led by Donkeys take note.

I too think Labour has got some things badly wrong, not least Gaza, but they inherited a terribly poisoned chalice and the good things they have done are consistently underreported; that means, God help us, we're doing Reform's job for them.

Sorry, but I was around in the Thatcher years, and that's an exaggeration. Like it or not, LGBTQIA+ is far more complex, than mere homophobia. Seeing this govt through the lens of a single issue is shortsighted.

Not quite sure why you think I'm criticising simple acts of kindness. But smiling, carrying shopping, food bank donations are v different from springing a public surprise on someone at a till and filming it. Many older people are very proud about accepting charity, even when they badly need it.

It's time to start taking Farage seriously. No one really cared or knew anything about the EU before Brexit. Farage succeeded because people hated Cameron, Osborne and austerity. Trump got in on a similar wave of anger about inequality. We can't make the same mistake twice.
Rose Byrd (@rosame.bsky.social) reply parent
The kindest acts of charity are often done out of the limelight, a lot of older people would feel shamed by this being done so publicly. Why be filmed doing it? It looks like virtue signalling to me.
Rose Byrd (@rosame.bsky.social)
Given the shambles of Angela Rayner's resignation, and Reform rising relentlessly in the polls, it's time Starmer introduced a bill for PR. Labour has a big enough majority to get it through and it will stop Farage getting into No.10 and putting the final nail into the UK's coffin.

Usual weasel words from Farage, no, we don't have a constitutional right to free speech because we don't have a written constitution. But Article 10 of the Human Rights Act 1998 guarantees our right to "freedom of expression." And Farage wants to ditch it.

If it was discussed pre interview and the answer agreed on that makes it even worse. The excuse that Starmer got caught off guard by a curve ball then becomes nonsensical. Why did he not veto the question, or prepare a robust answer to challenge it?
Rose Byrd (@rosame.bsky.social) reply parent
I was horrified when I heard Matt Choi ask Starmer that on the PM prog tonight. The BBC normalising r/w smears about asylum seekers harassing or abusing women is completely unacceptable when tensions are so high, as was Starmer's failure to challenge it. At this rate Farage will walk into No.10
