📢 v1.107 is rolling out now! We've done what was previously thought to be impossible: you can now add image or videos to your post using one magical button. Just one step in making posting simpler and more enjoyable.
Rose 🌹 (@rose.bsky.team)
"A study examining 2.6m Bluesky posts referencing more than 500k scholarly articles over the past 2.5 years found they demonstrated 'substantially higher levels of interaction' – likes, reposts, replies and quotes – and greater 'textual originality' than previously reported for X, formerly Twitter."

Nobody said we promised an egalitarian utopia. Bluesky’s promise is user choice and freedom of exit. Curious what you think is a better way forward? (And also you know you can build it right and have access to the 38.5m users we’ve brought here?)

"algorithmic choice" is one of my favorite principles at @bsky.app. most social platforms decide what you see. we think you should have control when you want it. Custom Feeds are a step toward that vision — what do you like about them today? what feels clunky or missing?
Rose 🌹 (@rose.bsky.team) reply parent
This is my own view and not at all indicative of what’s happening at bsky: if we reduce context collapse—so people see who made lists and what they stand for—then reputable lists will rise to the top.
Rose 🌹 (@rose.bsky.team) reply parent
I get that many billionaires share certain unsavory traits. But I’ve known Mark for 10 years (when I was a wee founder), and I don’t think he believes he matters because of his $. His email is public; he responds to anyone genuinely willing to engage with him on ideas. Imho he’s a rare, real one
Rose 🌹 (@rose.bsky.team) reply parent
I do think we need more checks and balances here w our community labeling system
Rose 🌹 (@rose.bsky.team)
I hear on Bluesky: fuck people who think differently—they play dirty, so we will too. Billionaires? Too disconnected to be relevant. I get the anger. But if we mirror the worst of them, aren’t we proving their point? The win is engaging ideas, not people. We’re all more than one thing.
Rose 🌹 (@rose.bsky.team)
Social media reflects society—and right now we’re fragmented because many current institutions have failed us. It’s not right to work multiple jobs and still be not be able to buy a house. The answer isn’t to crown a king. Power corrupts. If we want a better system, we have to build it together.
Rose 🌹 (@rose.bsky.team) reply parent
Ha you’re slipping Mark! We will not have fulfilled our mission if we only serve one viewpoint or one group of people. The promise of Bluesky is that many communities and viewpoints can and should exist and people can choose how they want to engage with other. We are not better divided.

Rose 🌹 (@rose.bsky.team) reply parent
Hi 🧚♀️
Rose 🌹 (@rose.bsky.team) reply parent
We built blocklists so people can define safety for themselves. It’s like choosing a table in a dining hall—right now, not every table can host opposing views. Over time, we hope diverse feeds that are user-led spark serendipitous connections that build bridges between people.
Rose 🌹 (@rose.bsky.team) reply parent
Yes! Unclear on timeline but it’s something I’m really pushing for
Rose 🌹 (@rose.bsky.team) reply parent
I totally hear you. Tbh we've been catching up because we were a 20-person team at the beginning of this year, and we've been focused on growing our internal team to support the spike in user growth we saw earlier this year. @internet.bsky.social has a lot coming for us in the next months!
Rose 🌹 (@rose.bsky.team) reply parent
It is! I'll pull some numbers later today
Rose 🌹 (@rose.bsky.team)
Millions of followers ≠ engagement. @theguardian.com has 1.4m followers on Threads with almost no engagement. On Bluesky, links can get 3–4x more clicks than likes. The real question isn’t “how many followers do you have?” but “what kind of engagement do you get?”
Rose 🌹 (@rose.bsky.team) reply parent
We’ve been spending a lot of time in Discover recently. Have you noticed a difference in the last week?
Rose 🌹 (@rose.bsky.team) reply parent
My hunch is those dollars are better spent directly supporting the creators, devs, curators who make Bluesky a thriving ecosystem. If the people who are adding the most value are getting compensated, then they will spend more time on Bluesky which will bring more users
Rose 🌹 (@rose.bsky.team) reply parent
We have but so many features we’d put behind a paywall help people connect and converse, so it would be like working against ourselves

Right now, to get translations, you have to click on a post’s three dots and click translate and then it takes you off platform to Google Translate to translate the post. In-line translations would just be within the post on the app without taking you off platform.
Rose 🌹 (@rose.bsky.team)
If we added in-line translation, how many of you would use it? Pls comment w your emoji of choice 🧚♀️ bc likes are not indicative enough of want

Paris cleaned up the Seine by fixing sewers, building stormwater basins, and pulling out trash—enough that people can swim there for the first time in 100 years. Social media needs the same: infrastructure fixes, not cosmetic tweaks.
Rose 🌹 (@rose.bsky.team) reply parent
(8-9/9) Ok I messed up the numbering bc I decided mid thread to change the syncopation. Yes I guess the edit feature would be nice but you can’t always have nice things. Jk. Isn’t this better?
Rose 🌹 (@rose.bsky.team) reply parent
(7/9) Big Tech will always prioritize profit over people. Do we really want a future where only a handful of billionaire-run platforms control the social internet?
Rose 🌹 (@rose.bsky.team) reply parent
(6/9) Already, communities like the London Fixed Gear and Single-Speed (LFGSS) forum have shut down, unable to absorb the costs. Innovation is at stake. Now is the time when smaller communities should exist and thrive.
Rose 🌹 (@rose.bsky.team) reply parent
(5/9) But every one of us—whether a small team or a single developer—faces decisions about how to survive. Regulations written for Big Tech - like the recent Mississippi ruling that requires all users to verify before they can use a service - often hit smaller players the hardest.
Rose 🌹 (@rose.bsky.team) reply parent
(4/9) This is real competition with Big Tech. People are choosing these apps because they offer human curation and new experiences that the incumbents can’t provide.
Rose 🌹 (@rose.bsky.team) reply parent
(3/9) Both launched at the top of the App Store—not because they had massive budgets, but because they could bootstrap from Bluesky’s infrastructure, content, and 38M users.
Rose 🌹 (@rose.bsky.team) reply parent
(2/9) There are fewer than 30 people on the Bluesky team. On our protocol, new apps like @flashes.blue (built by one developer in Germany) and @skylight.social (built by two developers in Seattle) are thriving.
Rose 🌹 (@rose.bsky.team)
(1/9) Sharing some thoughts on the recent age assurance regulation discussions across the world…
Mark Cuban (@mcuban.bsky.social) reposted
It’s not about being clever. It’s about realizing we live in an algorithmically driven world. Where information is delivered to everyone individually. No two feeds are alike. You either break through or you don’t.
Bluesky (@bsky.app) reposted
Unfortunately, Bluesky is unavailable in Mississippi right now, due to a new state law that requires age verification for all users. While intended for child safety, we think this law poses broader challenges & creates significant barriers that limit free speech & harm smaller platforms like ours.

If our attention stays trapped in 3–5 billionaire-run platforms, democracy suffers. Bluesky is built by all of us—for all of us. It won't happen overnight, but we're building a freer internet where you have a voice and get to choose your experience.

The early internet thrived on disagreement without destruction. We’ve inherited bad habits from the major platforms. We're here to unlearn them—and build something that welcomes responsible discord across the spectrum.

It’s wild when the people who control the only feed most people see accuse us of being the echo chamber. People are scared and in pain—they deserve spaces to talk without top-down interference. That’s what we’re building.
