Trump has been gone for two days. A succession battle is raging in the White House. Vance said he should be President, but Don Jr insisted the eldest son is now next in line. Then Barron grabbed them like dolls and has been smashing them together while making angry grunts and suckling Melania.

“Doctors say it is unusual for an 81-year-old with fractured vertebrae to be released after one night. Shortly before being discharged, according to his spokesman, Giuliani visited with a nurse who, ‘Hadn’t seen a penis for a while and expressed gratitude for the Mayor’s heroic assistance.’”

Trump also seems to get credit for “public engagements” where he’s addled, sleepy, and/or just making shit up. Skeptical scrutiny for Democrats, participation trophies for Republicans.

But on a practical level, selecting ideologically-aligned recruits (because all ICE applicants will have their social media scrubbed by Doge/Palantir), training them poorly, and giving them a gun sooner thanks to the Leader is more than a simulacrum of brownshirts.

He thinks there's a literal giant tap that makes water flow from the Pacific Northwest to SoCal. He thinks soldiers walking around D.C. for two weeks has stopped crime and opened new restaurants. He thinks he's stopped 10 wars. In the real world, he wouldn't get hired as a WalMart greeter.

I grew up in New York in the 70s and 80s, got mugged a couple times, got in some fights, but the most dangerous situation I was ever in was visiting family friends in Roanoke, Virginia and ending up in a car with a drunk 17-year-old who tried to race one of his buddies.

Gavin is, currently, a useful weapon. That’s great! Smart people can encourage that without memory-holing his record—or the fact that just a couple months ago he was telling Charlie Kirk and Steve Bannon that they’re not bad guys and he agreed them about a lot of stuff.
Kirk Rudell (@rudell.bsky.social) reply parent
Not to get tinfoil hat, but the market shock (and 401k wipeouts) when tariffs kicked in was a big threat to Project 2025. It made low information voters aware something bad was happening. I think the administration and corporate class are working hard to keep the market inflated through midterms.

I don’t see trans rights as a “fabricated litmus test.” If you can abandon one marginalized group, you can abandon more. There’s a whole famous poem about that. But further, if praising Gavin‘s current comms while noting his record is “slaughtering” him… he’s not much of a politician.
Kirk Rudell (@rudell.bsky.social) reply parent
That’s exactly it. Look, if Gavin wants to attack Trump, great. If he makes other Dems more brave in their language and actions, super. But he has proven that he’ll say/do anything for power, and that’s not someone the country will need after this.
Kirk Rudell (@rudell.bsky.social) reply parent
I’m happy his comms style is spreading (Crockett, AOC, and others have been there for months, but of course Gavin gets credit for “showing the way” bc sexism/racism.) But post-Trump recovery will require uncompromising action, so I’m fine reminding people that Gavin will say/do anything for power.

“Complimenting Trump” more than normalizes him—it endorses him. It signals that there’s no real difference between the parties, and politics is just theater. It gives self-identified centrists permission to support him and destroys progressive turnout. So, hypothetically, dumb fucking idea.

A random sociology professor using “microaggression” in a syllabus is apparently driving away Democratic support, but literal Nazis writing speeches for the President is not *more* of an issue for Republicans? What does that say about the sincerity of language policing?
Kirk Rudell (@rudell.bsky.social) reply parent
Related, “microaggression” and pronouns are targeted bc they make (some) people uncomfortable, but Trump saying immigrants are “cockroaches” or the press is “the enemy of the American people” or it will be Jews’ fault if he loses is just ‘him being him’—a linguistic reality we’ve gotten used to.

The reluctance to call out the racism mirrors the refusal to address the overtly “Christian” GOP being packed with pedophiles and power hungry, money-grubbing killers. It’s as if Democrats are afraid to offend “centrists” who might like that stuff, rather than proudly claim the majority who don’t.
Kirk Rudell (@rudell.bsky.social)
There are white supremacists all over the administration— starting at the top—so atrocities against immigrants aren’t just a distraction; it’s an ethnic cleansing program that’s just as integral to Trump and the GOP as anything else they’re doing.
