It would be costly to find the player he wants right now. That contract isn't an anchor, and if he wants a solid 2C for a playoff run, that could be a dealine move for an expiring contract. He's spent years putting this team together, and he's not going to make a move just to clean up the books.
I've read several supposedly informed individuals saying the pressure is on Kent Hughes to move Carey Price's contract before the season in order to get below the cap. Simply untrue. He still has the LTIR option. Hughes would never back himself into a corner like that.

Perhaps, but even in training camp if a player shows up not ready to play and play hard, the #Habs could try to make a move sooner than later... even before pre-season starts.
A high-priced short term solution could compromise the #Habs stated goal of being competitive over the long term. It's a delicate balancing act and I'm happy that I don't have to make those decisions.
Finding the right 2C is far different from acquiring a 2C. The right player might already be in the organization but that won't be known until we've seen everyone on the ice a couple of times. #Habs

I think he had little feel for the game early. Then it was like he had no fundamental or positional game to fall back on for reasons I suspect were out of frustration. I’d kind of like him to play with guys (cliche) playing the right way but they’ll know where he is now.

Time be clear, I think the #Habs would like to unburden themselves from Price's contract before the season begins... but depending on how things work out a potential acquisition could come as late as the trade deadline.
If the #Habs trade Price's contract, it may not be with the goal of making an immediate acquisition. The team may want to monitor and evaluate their personnel over a period of time to identify their most critical needs. It could even take until the trade deadline.
Failing to give him an opportunity could be a huge mistake.
I am wearing my rose colored glasses. Last season, the #Habs finished with 91 pts while getting little contribution from Dach. Now they have added Demidov, Dobson and Bolduc. They will also have Dobeš and Carrier from day one. Even a modest contribution from Dach could push them close to 100 pts.
When it comes to Kirby Dach we don't know - if he was less than 100% physically last season - if he was playing tentatively after coming back from surgery - if he has overcome any psychological hurdles - the actual status of his health - if he has improved the deficiencies in his game #Habs
