the great thing about being less than one year into Donald Trump's second term is that there is still plenty of time for him to award other Masked Singer contestants the presidential medal of freedom

Friday was the last office day at TVLine before we go remote. We’ll still be doing in-person events, but… it’ll never be quite the same. Going to miss seeing my work family every day. Here are a few of us, along with our wonderful spouses, at my wedding a few years back. 💙

As someone on Threads reminded me, Chris Redd also departed ahead of Season 48. So, it was eight total. (I was positive Redd left a year later!) In other words, at least five more cast members would have to exit ahead of #SNL Season 51 for this latest shake-up to be even bigger.
Ryan Schwartz (@ryanschwartz.tv) reply parent
Hmm... I'm pretty sure that video is wrong. Wyle would have been 14 in 1985. That man is *at least* pushing 30.
Ryan Schwartz (@ryanschwartz.tv)
Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe we lost seven #SNL cast members after Season 47: Kate, Aidy, Pete, Kyle, Melissa, Alex and Aristotle. So, for this shakeup heading into Season 51 to be even bigger, we’d need to lose at least four more players.

Will the #SNL purge continue today…? Who’s out, who’s in limbo and who’s safe as of Friday AM: ❌ Emil Wakim ❌ Devon Walker ❌ Michael Longfellow ❌ Heidi Gardner
Ryan Schwartz (@ryanschwartz.tv)
If any of my fellow journalists are trying to reach Heidi for comment, I hear she took the kids to her sister's. #SNL
Ryan Schwartz (@ryanschwartz.tv)
I don't have strong feelings about the Devon Walker or Emil Wakim. I have to imagine Michael Longfellow was passed over for Weekend Update, and he had very little screen time his first year as a repertory player. Untapped potential, for sure. Heidi Gardner, on the other hand, is a huge loss. #SNL

Sure. But they didn't binge dump Organized Crime. And something tells me they're doing this to buy time, to potentially renew and move it back to NBC at midseason. But that's strictly a hunch.
Ryan Schwartz (@ryanschwartz.tv)
Wasn't there talk at one point about putting #ThePaper on NBC? Dunno how far those conversations got, or if they're still happening, but this switch from weekly to binge drop, with reviews embargoed for day before release, make this feel like a binge dump. I could be wrong!

The missing piece of the equation explaining why so many critic positions are being eliminated is the little AI summaries at the top of Google results, which reduced click-throughs drastically. Once again, a tech company has stolen human labor and monetized it and doesn't care about the impact.
