-GOD- it feels good to be home.. Moving my whole setup is always a bitch but better than being without for weeks on end.
Yeahhhno, unfortunately I'll have to delay my projects again because I simply can't find a setup that works with this location. I'll be home friday though so I'll be back to normal thankfully.
Ughh, damn it, the wonky-ass setup I have at this place is making work harder, I'm gonna have to delay Vtubesday -again-. I'm on a dining room table, where I have to tuck the keyboard behind my screen tablet with the monitor off centre -behind- that, so I'm contorting my wrists to get to everything
God, just did as quick and sloppy a warmup as I could and it still took 47 minutes...
The varied sclera is a real nice touch to the designs, solid choice.

Well there's two factors I feel are always at play. Firstly, and most importantly, comfort. Are you -comfortable- sharing particular things online? Secondly, more in the case of media people will like it, it's a huge world, theres bound to be a fair few folk who share your tastes on those things.

Working on a long term project at the moment in between vtubesday and whatever personal projects break the monotony. A bit more work than usual but it's too important to risk flubbing it in the early stages. Also been trying to make my pencil lines thinner as an experiment, so far so good I think.

Squeaking by across the finish line this week with this weeks #Vtubesday; @shiabun.bsky.social! Certainly one of the more lax, yet upbeat Vtubers I've sat in on. Saucy, sassy and occasionally unhinged, but a good egg all the same. The idea came in record time when he said he wanted a meme redrawn.
I think I need to refine how I go about Vtubesday. By the time I get onto a stream and get what I need to get rolling, half the weeks gone by. Sometimes I'll be done within a day, but sometimes I'll need to take multiple. Just gotta get better about how I do this.
Finally back home and on a normal sleep schedule, provided nothing else happens, I might be able to get Vtubesday on time this week. Maybe.
....Fuck, I've been drawing Tess with 4 fingers per hand this whole time, when a lot of goblin depictions have three fingies. It's certainly a more noteworthy trait of them, now I'm debating changing her fingies now.
I think I was, I forget though. Also nothin' to be sorry for, styles evolve, shift, change and even just plain adapt. As long as you're happy with your work thats all that really matters.

Sometimes I wonder just how peoples lines can seem to almost not exist at all. Any time I line, if its too thin it feels..off, maybe its my style or just a hangup I have with them when I do them. Dunno.

Not at all, it's something I'm actually struggling to come to terms with at the moment, at least in regards to people and failing communication. People get busy sometimes, or get suddenly pulled away, but if someone repeatedly lets you down in conversation, don't be afraid to think less of them.

It's rough, sometimes, much as you get the good feels from drawing for folks or because you get the security of money in the case of comms. It is very easy to fall into the trap of not drawing for yourself as much. Good on you for taking the steps to take care of yourself and I hope things improve
I absolutely adore this side-plot, a bond originated by happenstance and grown through care, their dynamic is stellar. Also "You look wonderful" says the blind man, either he's a real jokester or he can just sense when his work hits the mark aesthetically.

It's tough finding that oomph to finalise projects, the drive one idea gives you fades if it has to get put off for any unavoidable reason.
Honestly, amazing work. I know from experience how much of a ball-ache animating can be, so for you to manage to do so with multiple poses and perspectives is absolutely stellar. Your designs are always charming and the seamstress is no exception, so its quality compounded upon quality, nice job!
Correct, that is one of the core issues of my problem, it just falls hand in hand with the future-tech aspects. The aesthetic is jarring, too far apart from previously established factors in the game and while that could be considered a narrative tool, it ends up looking like a whole other game.
I forgot for a brief, wonderful moment that I was on the internet, where disliking something is met with fierce resistance. But yknow, more power to folk to raise their own points about something they deem as positive, in some cases I might be shown I'm wrong. This isn't one of them. DT was a mess
I'll be here all day if I kept responding to people who didn't agree with me. We all have differing thoughts and feelings on the media we consume, everything should be taken on a case by case basis and regardless of the points made, at the end of the day theres nothing wrong with disagreeing.
I feel we'll be at this all day so I'll simply leave with my final thought on this matter, and by all means, continue to feel how you feel, I'm not here to change minds. Genres differ for a reason, they explore different themes and narratives. Muddying their waters strips them of their identity.
The hamfisted use of FF9 in this expansion is a whole other discussion I won't be engaging with. To address your Garlean point though yes, they do have those things. They have always been about replicating through magitech what they've been denied. Magic does all of those things, it's established.
We got in depth detail about how the silly dancing bird-mens parade float works. To expect the same of what is portrayed to be an extremely lore pivotal aspect of this entire civilisation isnt a huge ask. Too much vaugity harms narrative. We're of different minds and theres nothing wrong with that
Final -Fantasy- is a fantasy genred series, to lump science fiction in because its 'a kind of fantasy' feels disingenuous to both genres. As you say, Sci-fi is an actual genre, it has its own set of expectations and themes, themes that differ enough from generalised fantasy to be considered its own
When telling a story, the precedent set by its genre is key. Even with the somewhat 'modern' features of FFXIV over its time, it is still, at its core, a fantasy game. I could show a stranger a screenshot of anything pre-DT and they can tell its a fantasy game. If I showed this one? They wouldn't.
How this tech jump happened is either rarely or never elaborated on, just assumed 'because electrope'. The Interdimensional Key is the reason the shift to the source even occurred, not their tech. Sudden changes, shock and surprise have a proper method of delivery, Dawntrails was not it, sadly.
I would like it known to any commenting on my post, these are merely my feelings on the matter. I hold no ill will towards anyone who disagrees with my comments, as all are welcome to have and share their own thoughts and feelings. The world would be boring if we all thought the same way on things.
In terms of narrative, something can be out of place while still mesh with the story. Allagans are a prime example of that, as are every other instance of 'technologically advanced ancients' in the series. The 9th reflection jumped from medieval with propellor-based airships to holograms and mechs.
Garleans - 'Oil' powered machines. Grounded and fitting. Allagans - Aether mastery and biotech, out of place, but established throughout the story. DT - Ore that turns electricity into other elements, somehow becomes sci-fi future tech. Disconnected from everything prior and aesthetically jarring.
The justification of 'its in another world' only adds to the problem. Electrope is a shoehorned element. It's a storage device for energy, turning electric aether into other kinds, which also means it can apparently stores souls too? Also, while our opinions vary I don't fault you for having them.

Allagan technology is in essence, magitech with occasional biotech meshed in. It was surreal and otherworldly, fitting with FF's tradition of technological application. The way things like this are framed make it raw Sci-fi, theres little to no grounding in the setting and is aesthetically jarring.
Yes, but it's always the nature of that technology and the way it was intergrated into the story. Normally it's the 'ancient but terrifyingly powerful' technology, which is often grounded in the world and was never advanced to this degree. Out of place, but still within the genre, a fine balance.
I think today is a 'curmudgeoney old man' day, it seems.
I'm sorry, I know a lot of hard-working people are involved with the game, but this simply isn't Final Fantasy. I don't mean the music, that's usually been on point, I mean this Zone of Enders-esque, future-tech nonsense DT spewed out. It's a total clash of genre that hinders FFXIV's game feel.

Beyond the uniquely creative choices you make in your work and designs, theres a certain loose, carefree nature to the things you make. Not in a purely visual sense, more as the vibe of whatever you produce.
I think I'll treat raid directives as reccommendations if I can't manage to get a direct answer from the vtuber of the week. It's always good to have backup plans.

Vtubesday may be delayed again, besides heat making art difficult after work, I've been struggling to catch the streams of the current focus. There might be vods, but besides needing more information to draw from, kinda need to know who I'm being passed to next, which requires some kind of contact.
I usually see neat characters I like the design of and then draw them.
It's different for everyone, hell, I dont get as much enjoyment from the act of creating, but do from the completed product. It could be a similar case. The 'failure' mentality is a separate issue, but know that failure isnt a bad thing, it's how we learn.
Well, there you go, the feeling of completion, the satisfaction of having made something. Home in on that and focus on creating finished pieces.
A big part of it is knowing -why- you want to art in the first place and invest in that.
Usually the satisfaction of completion and the fact I decide what the content of the art is.
Nice variety, makes me wanna get off my lazy butt and practice clothing styles.
