I accidentally got some bits of eggshell into the batter when I made the banana bread, and didn't discover it until it was in my mouth, crunching between my teeth. But that's okay. I'm just eating these loaves a little more slowly and carefully.
I want to write beautiful things again but it can be very hard to make beautiful things during ugly times, even if maybe those are the times that we need beautiful things the most.
Yeah. For me there's the not having time or energy part of it. But part of it is also just that the things that I don't really want to write or argue about the things that feel urgent, the things that make me angry or scared. And the other stuff, it just doesn't feel important enough to write.
This was from almost two weeks ago, and sometimes I feel a little bad about not reading them right away. But I think sometimes you just need to save beautiful things for the right moment. Maybe a moment you need them, or at least a moment where you're able to be open to the beauty.

I've often said that I don't actually like writing, but I like having written. Or, rather, that eventually not having written becomes intolerable. I don't know. But I do know that if it's been too long since I've made something, I become restless.
Reading something that made me think "I miss writing." But do I miss writing? Or do I miss being the person I was when I wrote?

I imagine that there are people who would quite reasonably say that matters of honor are not as important as the material harms this administration continues to commit. I understand that perspective. But I also think it matters to have honorable people holding the levers of power.
The older I get, the more pacifist I get. And I do have qualms about the militarization of a society, and the ways that the concepts of patriotism and honor are utilized by the powerful to justify evil. But if honor means anything, then this is dishonorable.

I prefer my good scoop enough to just wash it by hand instead of using the bad scoop. I’ve washed it three or four times in a night before.
I have two ice cream scoops: a good ice cream scoop and a bad ice cream scoop. Not only is the good ice cream scoop is better than the bad ice cream scoop in every way, I also actively dislike the bad ice cream scoop. And yet, I’ve had both for years and years. Why? I don’t know. I just do.
