#Genealogy Tip — Spelling variations can befuddle researchers. Include in your notes the spelling of the name on the document, if it is not the norm. Or list all the ways the name has been spelled on records for that individual.

Make a list of the family keepsakes and heirlooms in your home. Photograph each object. Add provenance details, including dates, where the object came from, original owner, and why the object has special meaning for the family. 2/2

Be careful out there! I was surprised to see one of my ancestors listed as a Lt. in the Am Revolution on Find a Grave website with a credible source cited. I checked source. He is not listed there — or anywhere else as a Rev War participant. #Genealogy Check sources for info found on the internet!

The volume of Canadians taking road trips into the U.S.—the way most Canadians visit—dropped by 37% last month compared to July 2024, according to new data from Statistics Canada, following a 33% drop in June. There was also a 26% decline in air travelers from Canada year-over-year.

One of the things about historical research is you encounter the fact that children used to die at heart-breaking rates. The cemeteries are full of tombs with zero to eleven year life spans. The correspondence mentions child death on a regular basis. Children died often.
