I hope you are right, but this administration is not backing down from anything unpopular or unconstitutional. This signals that they are not concerned about future elections, similar to how Russia and many other dictatorships have 'elections'.

Doesn't matter, personal devices would still likely have a cert installed to decrypt all traffic for inspection. That's what we did in the last school I worked at, except we didn't intercept sensitive services e.g. banking sites. This was purely so we could provide duty of care to students.
