Finished Aldiss’s β€˜Greybeard’ today - easily one of my top 3 novels of the year to date. I thought that β€˜Hothouse’ & β€˜Non-stop’ would be hard to beat, but I can see why many class this as his best realised novel. Beautifully structured with an engaging cast of finely drawn characters. Superb book.

Covers of three SF novels by Brian Aldiss. β€˜Hothouse’ is represented by a quasi-abstract image of dense green foliage ; β€˜Non-stop’ depicts a man looking through a breach into a space inhabited by jungle foliage ; and β€˜Greybeard’ shows an empty baby cot in a dilapidated room, with the view through the window showing towering city office blocks.

My week in science fiction! Two pretty good books and one disappointment, plus comment of the week, a book buying bulletin, a look ahead and other stuff too. Check it out! #scifibooks #sciencefiction #booktube youtu.be/QiR0g9Qx3-M

If you're lacking for something better to do today, get some snacks, settle in and watch this a longer vid from the end of last year. I briefly discuss then rank each of the several science fiction books I read in 2024. πŸͺπŸ“š #scifibooks #sciencefiction #booktube #tierranking youtu.be/PyL8QZtGSDs

Ignoring for a moment certain individual that is involved here, I do think the achievement is impressive. If we're still limited to chemical rockets. Just need anti-grav and we'll really be cooking. share.google/MwihvLELtvTm...
