Particularly us olds. Until the late 90s, there was no way to easily check the truth of anything! When I grew up, someone could make any claim and you just had to either choose to believe them or not believe them. Older people just never developed the habit, particularly if not highly educated.

Just to elevate the discussion: cadavers wouldn’t work, the tissues are not comparable. But for decades, most med schools have paid “professional patients” who are paid to allow med students to learn how to perform pelvic exams. They are often nurses, and very committed to teaching the skill.
