"Harvard can't use race as a factor in admissions, but ICE can use race as a factor in detentions" is a retrenchment essentially to a pre-Civil War understanding of the Constitution. It's vanishingly few steps removed from "Latinos have no rights which the white man is bound to respect."

Millions of people will die horrible deaths globally, likely for many years to come, because Elon Musk, a single individual, wanted to punish USAID for investigating Starlink. This is why we cannot allow people to become billionaires if we want our species to survive.

something that drives me nuts is how legacy media will write that "scholars question legality" of a trump administration action when there is not a shred of evidence that it is in fact legal. it leaves room for the federal government to manufacture a legal justification when literally none exists.

Right but it doesn’t rise to the level of hypocrisy if they don’t bother to keep track of what they said last week. It’s a singular focus: They say whatever they want about whatever’s in front of them, and if they get caught in a lie then they just lie again and say that they never said that.

Perfect example. They don’t understand satire, or historical context, or the moral of any story. Blowing shit up is cool, therefore Trump is strong.

Also, they’re not actually afraid to take the subway. Everyone who works at Fox News takes the subway every day. They’re perpetuating a false narrative that Democratic leadership turns cities into crime-ridden hellholes. “Department of War” is the opposite of a false narrative.
Jeff Picanso (@scramblecity.bsky.social)
A stopped clock is right twice a day and “Department of War” is Good Actually. They’re not renaming, they’re reverting to its original, accurate name. And when it sounds unnecessarily aggressive (which it always was) public opinion will be more likely to turn against its endlessly escalating budget.

The reason many of the commentators don’t like Bluesky is because the infrastructure is set up in a way that no longer benefits them. On Twitter it was always easier to gain an audience by purposefully saying things that upset people. Getting ratio-ed was a tactic. Here, that’s much harder.

The lies' laughable implausibility is a feature, not a bug. They're not trying to convince discerning, skeptical, fact-based people. They're trying to give supporters a fantasy that validates their feelings and creates a sort of loyalty test, while flaunting the absurdity in everyone else's faces.
