My statement on @nadler.house.gov’s decision not to seek re-election next year.

“For more than thirty years, when New Yorkers needed a champion, we have turned to Jerry Nadler—and he has delivered for us time and again. Jerry stood alongside gay and trans Americans when it was politically unpopular, voted with courage—not calculus—against the Iraq War and the Patriot Act, stood steadfast alongside the first responders and families sickened after 9/11, and led efforts to hold a lawless Trump administration accountable. Few leaders possess his record of principled progressivism, and fewer can claim to have made such an enduring impact on the fabric of our city. Congress will be worse off without his leadership, but our democracy will be better for the selflessness that has defined a legendary career.”

The mental fitness of elderly Presidents has been such an important issue for the media lately, so I expect wall-to-wall coverage of how President Trump has once again thrown a fit about one of his own signature policies, showing no awareness of how it arose or who executed it.

@realDonaldTrump It is very important that the Drug Companies justify the success of their various Covid Drugs. Many people think they are a miracle that saved Millions of lives. Others disagree! With CDC being ripped apart over this question, I want the answer, and I want it NOW. I have been shown information from Pfizer, and others, that is extraordinary, but they never seem to show those results to the public. Why not??? They go off to the next “hunt” and let everyone rip themselves apart, including Bobby Kennedy Jr. and CDC, trying to figure out the success or failure of the Drug Companies Covid work. They show me GREAT numbers and results, but they don’t seem to be showing them to many others. I want them to show them NOW, to CDC and the public, and clear up this MESS, one way or the other!!! I hope OPERATION WARP SPEED was as “BRILLIANT” as many say it was. If not, we all want to know about it, and why??? Thank you for your attention to this very important matter! President DJT 181 ReTruths 573 Likes Sep 01, 2025, 8:15 AM President Donald Trump is outraged that Americans are footing an unfair financial burden, citing a 2020 trade deal called the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement that he signed. The president claimed during a White House press conference Monday that the impacts of the USMCA will be alleviated with a 25% tariff on all Canadian and Mexican goods starting next week, and unwittingly criticized himself after rebuking America’s neighbors. “I mean, who can blame them if they made these great deals with the United States, took advantage of the United States on manufacturing?” Trump said Monday. “On just about anything, every aspect you can imagine, they took advantage.”

Pure distillation of Trump's view that positive-sum trade is literally impossible—buying = losing & selling = winning, automatically But also a good view into the inconsistencies of his trade "demands". He's mad at India for its tariffs, but even zeroing them wouldn't be enough?

What few people understand is that we do very little business with India, but they do a tremendous amount of business with us. In other words, they sell us massive amounts of goods, their biggest “client,” but we sell them very little - Until now a totally one sided relationship, and it has been for many decades. The reason is that India has charged us, until now, such high Tariffs, the most of any country, that our businesses are unable to sell into India. It has been a totally one sided disaster! Also, India buys most of its oil and military products from Russia, very little from the U.S. They have now offered to cut their Tariffs to nothing, but it’s getting late. They should have done so years ago. Just some simple facts for people to ponder!!!

Reminder: the apparent plan was to spirit these children away in the middle of the night without them ever seeing the inside of a courtroom to challenge their deportation. Children.

NEW: A week or so ago, one federal agent kept popping up in videos from Trump's violent DC crackdown—so @jsweetli.bsky.social and I investigated. Turns out he's a 26-year-old US Parks Police officer, a lesser known law enforcement unit currently championed by Interior Sec. Doug Burnum. Our report:

Can't believe that on my first day as a nurse I have been charged with replacing Rudy Giuliani's IV drip of Johnnie Walker Black while he is in intensive care. It's what's keeping him alive. You get into this line of work to take care of people, but you never imagine how important it could be.

Judge Sooknanan and her team have been working for almost 22 hours straight now. I imagine they will stay up till the last child has been returned (2 more hrs?). That puts them at 24 hours straight defending the rule of law & protecting the children. #DOJ #ICE

Once more for those in back: They were never going to be able to implement a mass deportation program without prioritizing people like this. Criminals and gang members are too hard to find and apprehend. Regular folks who show up to work, church, and their scheduled immigration appointments are not.

This “explicit” is a weird editorial choice. The constitution gives the president no power over this at all. It’s not ambiguous.

Just for the record, Trump can’t do this. The constitution is very clear that the times, places, and manners of elections for federal office are up to each state, but can be altered by Congress. The president has no role here, except to sign into law or veto a bill that congress passes to do this.
