One last thing. Charlotte Brontƫ actually hated Jane Austen because Austen was a popular writer who had absolutely ROASTED the Brontƫ sisters' novels in Northanger Abbey a full 45+ years before they were even written, and Charlotte was a just a bitchy mean girl who couldn't take critique.*

Like, I've tried to form the sentences first, but unless it's something that can be expressed really simply, in 1-2 sentences, all I start with is a vague idea of how to relay the concept or answer in a way the other person will get. And few things are a straight yes/no, because conditions MATTER.

If you listen closely you can probably hear me screaming. A couple of years ago I reported a ā€œrescueā€ to AC for discouraging vaccinations and using home remedies and shit and AC was on their side, thought it was fine to tell people not to vaccinate dogs and put colloidal silver in their eyes.

Excerpt from the linked article: In bold: Worries about vaccination rates in dogs Regular text: As rabies seems to be spreading more in wildlife, veterinarians are especially worried about vaccine hesitancy spreading among pet owners, a dangerous trend that could lead to more dogs - and their owners - becoming infected. A 2023 study published in the journal Vaccine found in a nationally representative sample of Americans that nearly 40% believed canine vaccines were unsafe and 37% believed that vaccines could lead their dogs to develop cognitive issues, such as autism.

from the essay: The Cajun Navy has always served as a beautiful example for me of active hope. No one went there knowing for sure that they could save people, some must have worried about the reported chaos, but they went.

There is a story about human nature that serves authoritarianism well: the idea that we are either too feckless or too vicious to function in the absence of strong authority backed by the threat of violence. That our weak, chaotic nature requires them and their domination and brutality. Authoritarians love to tell stories of crime and depravity, usually about whoever is portrayed as the outsider, the intruder--nonwhite, non-Christian, non-straight, non-native people, stories in which harsh measures, suppression of freedom and dissent, are necessary to institute a kind of order that is in fact repression and forced homogeneity. We are seeing that now coming from the current administration, with its invasion of Los Angeles and then Washington D.C., its persecution of immigrants and anyone who resembles them. But disasters tell us a different story about human nature, about who we really are, one that is profoundly important for everyday life. Because despite the grotesque stories and institutional panic, there was bumper to bumper boat traffic the morning after the storm hit, of people trying to launch their boats to see what they could do for the people of New Orleans. The flotilla was dubbed the Cajun Navy. The Cajun Navy has always served as a beautiful example for me of active hope. No one went there knowing for sure that they could save people, some must have worried about the reported chaos, but they went. They plunged into the utter unknown of a flooded, ruined, abandoned city.

The police version of the crash, as relayed by a local Manchester reporter, is unsurprisingly quite different from what Giuliani's spokesman says. The whole thing is even more murky now, however. manchester.inklink.news/rudy-giulian...

The New Hampshire State Police is investigating the crash that left a total of three people injured, including Giuliani, who was a passenger in one of the vehicles. Police say that just before 10 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 30, 2025, Troopers assigned to the Troop B barracks were investigating a reported domestic violence incident on Interstate 93 southbound in Manchester when a two-vehicle crash occurred across from them on the northbound side of the interstate. As a result of the collision, both vehicles went into the median and were heavily damaged. Troopers and fire personnel, who were at the scene of the first incident, witnessed the collision and quickly crossed the interstate to render aid. The on-scene investigation determined that a Honda HR-V, driven by Lauren Kemp, 19, of Concord, struck the back of a Ford Bronco, driven by Theodore Goodman, of Michigan. Kemp and Goodman, as well as Giuliani, Goodman's passenger, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were taken by ambulance to area hospitals for treatment.

and the same for when he returned to the WH. But the one from yesterday also notes that he walked from the golf course to the tennis courts at 1:50. Like they really want us to know he was playing golf.

I can't find a single news article where the picture used is from yesterday. They're all from previous golf outings. I don't believe he played yesterday. I also think it's kind of odd that as far back as I looked in the rolls, all his previous outings just said when he left and when he got there,

and no namechange form to go with any of it. It's proving to be a real bitch to get a Real ID. I don't have enough forms of ID with the same name on them to prove over name or the other. So don't tell me it's easy. It's easy for SOME people, NOT ALL PEOPLE.

I'm dealing with issues right now because I need a Real ID, but I changed my name when I got married, and I wasn't required to fill out a namechange to do it. So now I have a current driver's license in my married name, a SS card in my married name, but a birth cert bearing my maiden name,

It is a privilege brought about by circumstance of birth that allows a person to assume everyone has what s/he has.

You need your birth records to get either a driver's license or ID. If you are a married woman, you need your marriage documents. Some people need name change documents. You might need a social security number. Not everyone has one of those, either.

Some places are STILL woefully behind in computerizing records. That takes time, money, and manpower, and for a lot of counties in this country, is not a priority.

Not everyone's records were computerized, especially in rural areas or poorer jurisdictions. Courthouses flood and burn, and if your records were on paper and had not yet been computerized when that happened, tough luck. The internet was we now know it did not exist until the late 90s/early 2000s.

No, they cannot, actually. Especially older people, impoverished people, people who were born in rural areas, people who were born at home (especially in total areas or before probably 1980), and people of color. Not everyone was born in a city hospital that kept & filed records for them.

Not everyone has the documentation needed to get a driver's license or state ID, either.

I think a lot of people say "capitalism" when what they actually mean is materialism. And I hate to break it to them, but materialism is a problem everywhere, because by and large, human nature is to get as much as possible with as little effort as possible.

Beautiful 1860s Victorian butterfly, which was used to store small packets of sewing needles on the underside of the wings. This was a collaboration between a London-based drapers company and a sewing needle manufacturer. On exhibit at Tatter Blue, a Brooklyn textile museum. IG tatterbluelibrary

Small brass butterfly. The underside of the butterfly, which has little pockets to store sewing needle packets. The underside of the wings are decorated with two plates. One carries an inscription of the drapers company: The butterfly can be folded up, like how a butterfly flaps its wings. A close-up of the butterfly's wings.
