Bothers me when people discuss Left movements in the U.S. w/out underscoring the GENERATIONS of repression, surveillance, violence directed at movements. The "Left" is so disorganized is used as a joke but I hardly ever see those same people saying 'THE LEFT WAS TARGETED & DISORGANIZED by the STATE'
Negativity bias has a bunch of people immediately gravitating to believing the worst about folks. YET in reality, most people are pretty decent and are trying to live their lives. Folks buy into the "people are terrible" hype and that only serves other terrible people.

Worth noting again that if you want to tell if a white person—especially an activist or politician—is truely interested in liberation for everyone, keep an eye on how they talk and interact with -the homeless population -children -and Black women I have never seen this metric fail.
I think the Kimmel stuff is quite serious and bad, but taking a rich guy off the air for speech is not as harsh as agents of the state grabbing someone over speech and deporting them without due process, and the latter person is clearly more vulnerable, come on.

In my experience, courage is usually the product of love and/or solidarity. When we are deeply invested in each other, we are more likely to take risks that we wouldn't take out of mere principle, or for the sake of people we feel disconnected from. Our alienation mass produces cowardice.

One thing that everyone with any sense will have to do over the next few years is to refuse to accept lies and bullshit.
An easy way to gain clarity on political issues is to remember that Conservativism as an ideology is incapable of being sincere about anything but their hate. You can talk to individual Conservatives in isolation like people - but the movement as a whole is a rabid animal you can't compromise with.
Yesterday, someone died that I'd never heard of, and now apparently he's an American saint. I don't believe in saints: I believe in real humans doing the work to take care of each other. I don't need to hear about any other kind.
And the gleeful giggles from the accounts demanding solemn decorum right now would have been THUNDEROUS.
The problem with venerating Kirk: Many hadn't heard of him. They're now encountering isolated interviews and thinking he's not so bad. Which means they've missed the bulk of his output and it's now necessary to speak ill of the dead to make sure they know how damaging it is to elevate him.
