Boiling milk before use was just what you did. They had dedicated cookware for it. (Specially shaped to contain boil-overs, which milk is really prone to.) Household hygiene had SERIOUSLY high stakes back before hot running water & pasteurization. That's… like… why they taught home economics.

Photo of a vintage milk boiler. Kinda looks like a blocky metal teapot with a weird lid.

When people say "We used to drink raw milk from our own cow and it was fine," That's... usually not the case! In families w their own cow, the mom usually boiled it before using. We just forgot bc that's a boring chore that mom did. And who pays attention to that? youtu.be/vKDPast9WFk

Florida’s governor is proudly sending kids directly to disability and death by ending childhood vaccine requirements for school entry. Their parents have been vaccinated, so they will do all right, until Florida brews up a variant that evades everyone’s vaccines. This is a tragedy.

I have been saying for months that it is critical to monitor your state’s vaccine requirements for school entry. They are the only things standing between us and massive infectious disease outbreaks. With Florida ending these requirements, other states are sure to follow.

5 alarm fire at the C.D.C. 🔥 As a physician, a parent, and a citizen, I am very worried about the long term consequences of what’s happening at C.D.C. right now. Destroying public health infrastructure is incredibly dangerous for all of us. www.nytimes.com/2025/09/01/o...

Collectively, we spent more than 100 years working at the C.D.C., the world's pre-eminent public health agency. We served under multiple Republican and Democratic administrations - every president from Jimmy Carter to Donald Trump - alongside thousands of dedicated staff members who shared our commitment to saving lives and improving health. What Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has done to the C.D.C. and to our nation's public health system over the past several months - culminating in his decision to fire Dr. Susan Monarez as C.D.C. director days ago - is unlike anything we have ever seen at the agency, and unlike anything our country has ever experienced. Secretary Kennedy has fired thousands of federal health workers and severely weakened programs designed to protect Americans from cancer, heart attacks, strokes, lead poisoning, injury, violence and more. Amid the largest measles outbreak in the United States in a generation, he's focused on unproven We are worried about the wide-ranging impact that all these decisions will have on America's health security. Residents of rural communities and people with disabilities will have even more limited access to health care. Families with low incomes who rely most heavily on community health clinics and support from state and local health departments will have fewer resources available to them. Children risk losing access to lifesaving vaccines because of the cost. When the C.D.C. was created in 1946, the average life expectancy in the United States was around 66 years. Today, it is more than 78 years. While medical advances have helped, it is public health that has played the biggest role in improving both the length and quality of life in our nation. The C.D.C. has led efforts to eradicate smallpox, increase access to lifesaving vaccinations and significantly reduce smoking rates. The agency is also on the front lines in communities across the country, delivering crucial but often less visible wins - such as containing an outbreak of H.I.V. cases in Scott County, Ind., or protecting residents in East Palestine, Ohio, from toxic chemical exposure.

A handful of late summer #nativeplants garden moments from yesterday. 🌱🦋🐛

Bright pink garden phlox with paler obedient plant, orange butterfly weed, and mostly-gone-to-seed skullcap in the background. A monarch caterpillar munching on butterfly weed, which has also been beset by oleander aphids. A cute lil brown skipper on white late boneset flowers, with sun filtering through its wings. A whole lot of blue mistflower with its weird neon-not-neon poufs of flowers.

But by far and away, the biggest priority for a Heritage Foundation-captured CDC is going to be using the agency's legal frameworks for access to medical data, and weaponizing them to control women. *Most* of the Project 2025 plan for CDC is a witch hunt against abortion on an unprecedented scale.

Respect for Life and Conscience. The CDC should eliminate programs and projects that do not respect human life and conscience rights and that undermine — 455 — 2025 Presidential Transition Project family formation. It should ensure that it is not promoting abortion as health care. It should fund studies into the risks and complications of abortion and ensure that it corrects and does not promote misinformation regarding the comparative health and psychological benefits of childbirth versus the health and psychological risks of intentionally taking a human life through abortion. The CDC oversaw and funded the development and testing of the COVID-19 vaccines with aborted fetal cell lines, insensitive to the consciences of tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands of people who objected to taking a vaccine with such a link to abortion. As evidenced by litigation across the country, it is likely that thousands were fired unjustly because of the exercise of their consciences or faith on this question, which could have been avoided with a modicum of concern for this issue from CDC. There is never any justification for ending a child’s life as part of research, and the research benefits from splicing or growing aborted fetal cells and aborted baby body parts can easily be provided by alternative sources. All such research should be prohibited as a matter of law and policy. CDC should update its public messaging about the unsurpassed effectiveness of modern fertility awareness–based methods (FABMs) of family planning and stop publishing communications that conflate such methods with the long-eclipsed “rhythm” or “calendar” methods. CDC should fund studies exploring the evidence-based methods used in cutting-edge fertility awareness. Data Collection. The CDC’s abortion surveillance and maternity mortality reporting systems are woefully inadequate. CDC abortion data are reported by states on a voluntary basis, and California, Maryland, and New Hampshire do not submit abortion data at all. Accurate and reliable statistical data about abortion, abortion survivors, and abortion-related maternal deaths are essential to timely, reliable public health and policy analysis. Because liberal states have now become sanctuaries for abortion tourism, HHS should use every available tool, including the cutting of funds, to ensure that every state reports exactly how many abortions take place within its borders, at what gestational age of the child, for what reason, the mother’s state of residence, and by what method. It should also ensure that statistics are separated by category: spontaneous miscarriage; treatments that incidentally result in the death of a child (such as chemotherapy); stillbirths; and induced abortion. In addition, CDC should require monitoring and reporting for complications due to abortion and every instance of children being born alive after an abortion. Moreover, abortion should be clearly defined as only those procedures that intentionally end an unborn child’s life. Miscarriage management or standard ectopic pregnancy treatments should never be conflated with abortion. Comparisons between live births and abortion should be tracked across various demographic indicators to assess whether certain populations are targeted by — 456 — Mandate for Leadership: The Conservative Promise abortion providers and whether better prenatal physical, mental, and social care improves infant outcomes and decreases abortion rates, especially among those who are most vulnerable. The Ensuring Accurate and Complete Abortion Data Reporting Act of 20239 would amend title XIX of the Social Security Act and Public Health Service Act to improve the CDC’s abortion reporting mechanisms by requiring states, as a
