i think the main reasons the first one was such a huge success is bc cgi was fairly new and this was a little more advanced than what we were used to at the time, it took them literally 10 years to make, and there was a hot female lead. very 2000s. oh and that it was a fantasy.
it never needed a sequel or anything beyond that. especially 10+ years after the first. the excitement had totally passed. media changed majorly. the big fantasy excitement was very 2000s and definitely not past the early 2010s.
