If you really want to make this an argument about the motives of people on both sides of this argument* it will lead to some uncomfortable places. How many people are comfortable using the word “genocide” about Israel’s actions but not about Hamas’s? * I don’t, and I shan’t
If these people don’t think there’s an important difference between “Israel is engaging in war crimes” and “Israel is committing genocide”, why don’t they make the much easier argument about war crimes? My proposed answer: Because they agree with me that genocide is especially bad!
If people are using the word “genocide” to mean “many people are dead and I personally am super angry about it”, I won’t bother arguing with them. If they have a more precise meaning for the word in mind, I think it’s worth asking what that meaning is and discussing whether it applies.
Turkey clearly was trying for ethnic cleansing (they wanted a Turkish Turkey, not a multiethnic Ottoman Empire). But pre-Kosovo, I don’t know that ethnic cleaning was widely regarded as genocide. (And if it is, you then have to argue whether post-WWII expulsions of ethnic Germans were genocidal…)
Let’s put “he” in quotation marks, though. I think whomever wrote this is trying to come up with a “moderate MAGA” position in which the vaccines are not necessarily bad but also RFK’s actions are not bad. So they square the circle by blaming Pfizer for everything.
