Perhaps an embedded documentary team/fixed cams watching/following the NESO control room etc trying to make it come about would be a good vehicle. I think this would def be an item on BBC etc on the day. Maybe not top billing but irrespective would be a minute or so on it
Si Cy (@sicy.bsky.social) reply parent
Doubt it matters that much tbh maybe it gets overlooked on the day, but it is notable event that will be reported on. I also think it would make international news albeit in a small way. It’s a good story for the transition in general not just UK. “Look at what’s possible” type of thing
Si Cy (@sicy.bsky.social) reply parent
I genuinely think that would be headline news and would give the current government a real boost. As well as an effective counter to the anti-NZ brigade

Si Cy (@sicy.bsky.social) reply parent
Maybe? Having some heating allows it to be used though should we want to. HP/AC would make it cheaper to run with some respite from summer heat waves but realistically the times it’s in use make that a bit of an extravagance. Just wondering if that can be done for v low budget, whilst decent Qlty
Si Cy (@sicy.bsky.social) reply parent
🎯 And we are seeing Trump doing exactly that to US wind projects. Where the mango mussolini goes, our Mr Toad will probably follow
Si Cy (@sicy.bsky.social)
Right then heat punks, help needed: I have an unused insulated shed-office space that needs to be heated over winter though it won’t be occupied. To maintain condition of fabric really. Obvious choice is a simple oil filled elec rad but is there a heat-pump &/or AC option for less than £500ish?
Si Cy (@sicy.bsky.social) reply parent
Probably. We can but hope 🤞
Si Cy (@sicy.bsky.social) reply parent
Valid, but there’s the politically possible dimension as well as the outright cost. Interested to see what plays out. There’s an opportunity for a genuine improvement here. I hope it’s taken

Mines at 80k miles, Autotrader thinks I’d get £8k part exchange, £9k private sale (Although theyre typically advertised around £11k) A tad disappointing for me, but a bargain for whoever gets one at that price.

Si Cy (@sicy.bsky.social) reply parent
Meh. I’m not fussed about progressive or not. Making ⚡️ cheaper is definitely a good thing. Switching the levies to gas would make a lot of sense but questionable whether they could survive that. If gas VAT~levies then may as well if it’s cost flat for consumers.
Si Cy (@sicy.bsky.social) reply parent
It’s not massive, but every little helps. Frankly, given how good they’ve been on a lot of energy things, I’m amazed they’ve not removed VAT from public chargers already. If elec levies entirely moved onto gas, is it less than VAT?
Si Cy (@sicy.bsky.social) reply parent
Too much demand, not enough supply? Some genuinely suggesting it’s not worth bidding for anything completing after ‘29 due Reform being the next government. Outside the administrative strike price limit, DESNZ are kind of committed to the budget allocated right?

Si Cy (@sicy.bsky.social) reply parent
So only Ionity are below (rough) price parity with ICE on cost of “fuel”. I absolutely understand the need to recoup the capital for a ~£65k DC rapid charger. But a simple AC charger shouldn’t be much more than £1k. 59p is therefore taking the piss IMO. And not helping people make the switch.

On battery recycling the problem so far, we are told, is lack of feedstock. Not enough old EVs and people re-using them for home storage etc. Now that is changing apparently, but now new batteries as so cheap recycling is marginal 😬 Markets gonna market I guess www.ft.com/content/cc5e...

Mine: 11.7kWp (26 x 450Wp panels), 8kW hybrid inverter (maxes out at 8.8kW), 32.2kWh battery. £21k. Works well but I’d go for the 10kW (max 12kW) inverter in hindsight. Low light perf looks same and often panels exceed 8.8kW - but as long as there’s room in the battery it can soak up the excess.
Si Cy (@sicy.bsky.social) reply parent
Warranties for PV should be ~30yrs, batteries ~15. Workmanship 5-10. Are they members of an insurance scheme to cover you if they go under? (a la ATOL/ABTA for your hols) A little battery was a lot per kWh, loads was much cheaper per unit.
