I'm aware of that. I'm merely voicing my personal opinion here on how i wish individual memberstates would react, even though that would implicate the whole block and is thus not likely to happen. EU needs reforms. Or maybe other, smaller blocks will form.

Yeah, that is true. A bomb that fell within a range of 100m, was considered a hit, if my memory serves me correct. Nevertheless, that 30% which got "close enough" still flattened entire factories as aerial recon pics of after the bombing showed. But the machines were often still intact.
Sigil23 (@sigil23.bsky.social) reply parent
Good bang for the buck, for sure. Even when it's quickly repaired
Sigil23 (@sigil23.bsky.social) reply parent
Cheers to that.
Sigil23 (@sigil23.bsky.social) reply parent
Well, i sure wish you're correct 😉
Sigil23 (@sigil23.bsky.social) reply parent
So yes, it remains a guess. But when a few hundred 4-engine bombers dropping loads of 500kg bombs, didn't succeed in causing long-term damage to a factory, I doubt it would be much different for a few drones.
Sigil23 (@sigil23.bsky.social) reply parent
My personal assessment is based on dozens of books I have read about the impact of the strategic bombing campaign on Germany during WW2. The daylight bombings often seemed to have destroyed entire factories. For the structures this was true, the machinery though got damaged only lightly.
Sigil23 (@sigil23.bsky.social) reply parent
I'm afraid you're right. When burning it looks pretty impressive but the explosive yield of drones, simply doesn't suffice to cause structural damage to industrial structures. They have to keep up the strikes to cause long-term consequences. Or use Flamingos...🤔
Sigil23 (@sigil23.bsky.social) reply parent
So, basically your 1st Amendment has become a joke. Only applicable to those with the "correct" mindset, the "right way of thinking"... What on earth is needed to make you people rise up, defend and claim your constitutional rights???

It won't be "crushed" by adding more hate to the mix.
Sigil23 (@sigil23.bsky.social) reply parent
Just my 5 cents, mate. I've no golden solutions. But the prospect of a US sliding into another civil war scares me to death. And i don't even live there. Either you somehow rally around the flag again or start digging trenches.

This is also history
Sigil23 (@sigil23.bsky.social) reply parent
History tells us more than that
Sigil23 (@sigil23.bsky.social) reply parent
And how will you get them to do that?
Sigil23 (@sigil23.bsky.social) reply parent
You know how the US pacified Germany and Japan after WW2? Two states driven by a racist ideology? By being magnanimous in victory. To be fair, they had an agenda to it. But nevertheless, both countries are democracies now.
Sigil23 (@sigil23.bsky.social) reply parent
I agree on the emboldening part. But i'm pretty sure people on the other side of the spectrum feel just the same. They will also be able to tell you tales of how certain topics are being drip-fed into them. They feel just as confused as you do. Just as angry.
Sigil23 (@sigil23.bsky.social) reply parent
Can it be any more obvious?

Sigil23 (@sigil23.bsky.social) reply parent
"Left-wing socialists"... That would almost make them communists. Do explain why these "left wing socialists" of yours found it necessary then to outlaw the socialist and communist parties shortly after gaining power.
Sigil23 (@sigil23.bsky.social) reply parent
Nazis were progressive? They were quite the opposite of that, but please, do explain why you think this. I read quite some books of Ian Kershaw, Richard Evans, Max Overy and a bunch of other historians. You seem to be sitting on info they didn't have.

And this is being labelled as disinformation here... Mind-boggling...
Sigil23 (@sigil23.bsky.social) reply parent
That is already happening to some extent. EU neglected defense for too long. Unchecked mmigration also played its part. Strongest help for Putin comes from Trump though nowadays.
Sigil23 (@sigil23.bsky.social) reply parent
The strongest attack is currently happening in the US. There it seems part of the population is already resignating, another part still hoping that 'it won't get that bad'. Both parts need to stand up now. Waiting for 2026 is an idle hope i fear.
Sigil23 (@sigil23.bsky.social) reply parent
The UKR war and Trump opened up EU's eyes, though very late in the game. I hope traditional parties will get their act together here. It's too easy to create a scapegoat and it doesn't help anybody.
Sigil23 (@sigil23.bsky.social) reply parent
Through an unregulated internet RU disinformation crept in and CH stepped into the gap as soon as US distanced itself, creating new interdepencies, strengthened by the Belt-And-Road initiative. German Realpolitik and the belief in "change through trade" made RU leverage/influence stronger.
Sigil23 (@sigil23.bsky.social) reply parent
Long story. EU has always been aware that US preferred to see EU not too strong. For quite some time they used GB as a tool for that. But there was interdepency through trade and EU thought "better the devil you know" (slight exaggeration). Still it caused friction.
Sigil23 (@sigil23.bsky.social) reply parent

Sigil23 (@sigil23.bsky.social) reply parent
Lefty? I just advocated rearming to the teeth. How lefty is that? Those experts spread their opinions with a reason, and that reason i mentioned. And if EU wouldn't rearm their scenarios might very well become reality. I hope they convince the population of that need to rearm. Lefty....🙄
Sigil23 (@sigil23.bsky.social) reply parent
Russia made the mistake of considering them minor. Their initial attack had only about a 100.000 troops because they wrongly believed Ukraine would not resist much. That is why i use the word minor.
Sigil23 (@sigil23.bsky.social) reply parent
To me that sounds like an argument highly suitable to sooth your own conscience.
Sigil23 (@sigil23.bsky.social) reply parent
So what you are saying is that it's no use pursuing each possible goal in an attempt to lower emissions?
Sigil23 (@sigil23.bsky.social) reply parent
..in the future. The tale of 1500 tanks a year is based on refurbished older models they still had in stock. Stocks that are dwindling as we speak. Don't get me wrong: Europe MUST rearm and fast! Conscription needs to be on the table again. But RU is unlikely to invade Europe.
Sigil23 (@sigil23.bsky.social) reply parent
..i don't see how they are going to attack NATO territory. The little green men scenario won't work twice and a larger military build-up will be noticed long in advance. Besides, their industry is suffering severe manpower issues due to the war and demographic changes, which will only grow larger..
Sigil23 (@sigil23.bsky.social) reply parent
I understand the narrative being needed to make EU populations accept higher spending on defense instead of e.g. social matters. But having lost the larger part of their hardware in a 3,5 years trial to subdue a minor adversary and with suffering catastrophic manpower losses...
Sigil23 (@sigil23.bsky.social) reply parent
Though, i don't see how war will kill democracy in the EU. Except if you mean the hybrid warfare and the rot that is spread on social media.
