Nah dyslexia runs in my family and it's just genetic luck that I don't have it and have the same trouble reading that some of my relatives do. Obviously tons of lazy people out there too and my parents read to me etc but it really is just harder for some people the same way it was easy for me

That's kinda mind-blowing in some ways when you think about how vital literacy skills are to actually performing management jobs, then you remember how most people wound up in management jobs...
Like I can sorta remember my time as a little kid when reading took strenuous, conscious effort, and can def remember my time as an older kid when writing was the same, but a lot of adults are like little kid me and "read this long email" is literally hard for them, requiring focus and work.
I think more than anything else AI feels like a miracle to people with questionable literacy because it can read and write for you, and a lot of us who are highly literate underestimate how many of our society's leaders, esp in business, struggle with literacy.
I should also make it clear that a lot of people DID see our current “oligarchs try to use AI to subjugate everyone else” future very clearly - they just largely weren’t the people making the decisions.
And again this doesn’t even have to mean that AI actually CAN replace human labor at anywhere even vaguely near the scale the oligarchs seem to think it will - it’s enough that the oligarchs BELIEVE that they can use AI to break the back of human labor
so many people simply seem to have lacked the capacity to imagine the quite frankly highly foreseeable outcome of “we invent a tool that we claim can replace a ton of human labor, so the rich people in charge decide to try to use it to crush human labor into oblivion forever”
