But perhaps it was a misconception to assume this will increase the percentage of people really appreciating art and understanding the effort it takes, or being prepared to pay artists well for it, etc? (I still think overall the needle moved in a positive direction on those, just not bigly.)

Would be interesting to see what the high-engagement posts were about. If the peak and falloff were mostly related to US politics it might not be a “Bluesky is dying” as much as “people are getting tired of a particular topic that maximized engagement”. But that wouldn’t make for catchy headlines.

At the UN Security Council, as PM Yulia Svyrydenko showed the body of a child killed in a Russian strike, Russian representatives stared into their phones. A stark reminder: for Moscow, human life means nothing, cynicism is their official policy.

And this is the type of arrogance that is making Austria fall behind in terms of development pace even more. Most people here absolutely ignore the rampant corruption and inefficiencies in Austria while happily pointing at Eastern European countries as being corrupt and backwards.

This is what I assume Kraut means, but it’s sadly far from a reality. In Austria Eastern European countries are very much seen as lesser places, even to the point of mamy assuming education and things like infrastructure are shit compared to Austria, when in fact they are ahead in many ways.

Yes, 'gen ai' should be banned. The data centres and hardware must be repurposed. Everyone involved at CEO and executive level should be put on trial for misuse of a whole planet full of data they don't own, straight-up fraud. And civil suits should go after them and their employers for every asset.

Yes. That's a joke. In the West we used to imagine and depict "Eastern Europe" as that "backward place of oligarchs". Now America is that place.

So to me it absolutely seems plausible that _movement_ can be recognized at a much higher frequency than, say, 30 or 60 “frames” (impressions?) per second, since it’s by definition not the same eye cells reacting to it at their refresh capacity. But I’m just an interface designer, no scientist. 🤷‍♂️

(I’m sure you know this, just adding my thoughts) Cones and rods react at different speeds already (30 vs 200ms), and I’d assume it’s not all of them reacting simultaneously and in sync. If light “flashes” across the eye, left to right, I’d absolutely expect the cones to go off one after another.

Shenzhen. ~7400km away from Ukraine. I think Ukraine would need to improve its long-range drones, to cover more "contingencies". (China's large. I'm sure their AD is as "exceptional" as the russia's.) bsky.app/profile/baba...

The 19th district almost became a "rich part of town" like other cities have, when wealthy Viennese moved there in the 1960s. But the mayor at the time was like "Awww that's cute. You don't want to live among plebs. So I'll build two big pleb social housing blocks right in the middle of your shit."
