They can't even get people to vote for them after Trump says he'll do things that will hurt those same people - you think they're going to do anything else? Get used to them doing fuck all, and that WE will end up having to do all the ugly work ahead.

2021 alone had 725 cases resulting from the Jan 6th attacks and would dwarf all other years on the red bar ALONE.

The requirement of 'resulting in a guilty verdict', and based on the numbers shown for 2021, that's only showing cases that went to jury trial with a not guilty plea, and found guilty. That cuts the red bar by a TON for 2021, 2022, and 2023, because of how many pled guilty, avoiding jury trials.

Or he could be so ballsy as to say we've had enough of Trump's crap, and that the party needs to realize he was never a Republican in any sense, just a self serving dictator. But nah. He's not going to be so bold. If by some miracle he does, and he survives, we could have hope for stability.

I'm pretty sure Harris would have done better pulling away from the Israeli government and standing up for the human rights of the Gazans. Sure would've been better than the doubling down Trump has done in support of Israel. But sure, you showed them 'complicit' Democrats.

Brazil has clearly gone through a lot of evolution into a far more ethical and reputable country than it once was, but the US at the same time has fallen far enough that the Brazilian response is superior. I doubt people of ~40 years ago would have expected such a turn of events.

Someone with a superior attitude accusing me of having a superior attitude - how ironic. It's a pretty widely accepted fact that Brazil has not always had the most ethic and reputable government. Situations like this prove they've improved massively while the US has fallen as proportionally.

I would remind you of the ethos of what Patrick Henry said: "Give me liberty or give me death." It may not be just, but he knew that freedom, and free speech, came with risk. It may not be a valid response, but not an impossible one, especially in a free society.

But his children, and maybe even his wife, were not. It is valid to both feel Kirk's death is a consequence of his own actions, and show sympathy for his children who see him as their father first. His wife and children were victims of his ideology, too - including the brought risk to his own life.

Man, that hurts. It hurts because of the unreal amount of times I have had to decline sales of hundreds in Apple or Steam cards to some old lonely (or horny) guy who thinks some hot woman online is the love of his life and going to bang his brains out.

So @bsky.app what's the point of showing me a post I can't reply to, nor can anyone else? This is a conversational site, right? Or do you want it to become yet another disinformation and propaganda site? 'Cuz that's one great way to get there.

Went to watch the Made by Google event video, started scrolling to find them showing actual product... and there's like 5 minutes of that, and most of the rest of the hour and a quarter video is people rambling. I go to mock them in the comments. Comments are off. Of course.

Those look like the same kind of Blackwater-esque mercenaries that appeared to be padding the ranks of ICE. Is he just hiring a bunch of mercenaries for all of his 'projects', and are they in fact the same ones being shuffled from 'assignment to assignment'?

That's inferior to a 45. The 7" 45 would hold roughly 5 minutes, so longer than the original 'radio play' length songs (about 3 minutes). Lots of modern songs are easily 5 minutes long. A 4 minute max means those things can't hold a standard version of many modern songs.

To be clear, NO form of state based vote counting for the Presidency should exist. The raw popular vote should decide the Presidential race. It's been a long time since a President really tried to promote the fortunes of 'their' state. We would never have had Mango in the first place.

Well, gotta make the most of what they get. He's erratic enough and says so much crap on the fly, they can't rely on prepared propaganda and policies to guide his cult. If he had been killed, it's way easier to hold him up as the martyr and claim 'it is what he would've wanted'.

They and others through history were willing to stand up and present their ideas, even if it was at risk of their own selves and harm, at least to their minds and egos, if not to themselves. A few harsh words endured on a platform like this pales in comparison. We're closer to Diogenes than Luther.

There's a thing in the name there: media Either it's a misnomer and should say 'social club' (think MySpace), or it's a forum of ideas presented by personalities large and small. If there's one thing we've lost from the Founding Fathers of the USA, it's how they were willing to 'put it out there'.

Thing is, having to follow just to respond gives benefit to the poster that the responder doesn't want to offer. You can always block someone that's uncivil, following you or not. And about 'who you are' vs 'discussing an idea', I'd like to share a bit of wisdom from a very wise and tenacious woman

If he survives, he's 'brave', the 'other guys' are trying to get him. If he doesn't, he's a martyr, and the rest of his regime gets to keep his closest supporters and carry on in his name. It worked for Johnson, right?

If as many are saying Trump controls those close to him through fear and dubious means, they're willing to risk him while creating a situation to incite his supporters to stay faithful and take action. His support was slipping. Allowing a threat to 'slip through' and score a close shot? Handy!

He wasn't actually hit with a bullet, nor do they actually claim that. He was hit by the shattered teleprompter glass, and that's what was supposed to have cut his ear. The glass definitely was hit. I don't think the staging is as elaborate as people think... it was more of a 'let it happen'.

What you said in the OP seems a little... convoluted. Maybe I'm not getting your quote vs post juxtaposition. The thing about replies need to come from followers - that creates an echo chamber. I also take issue with Bluesky pushing such posts into my Discover feed. I mean logic in my mind is...

If you are going to limit the replies to a quoted post, don't do the crappy thing where it says 'some can reply' - if it wasn't your post originally, how ethically can you curate the discussion around that post? You either let it carry on your quote post, or you push people to the original post.

If we're not meant to discuss it when a post is quoted, it should shunt us to the original post for replies/comments. If that's the way you wish it to work, can you not turn off the ability to reply on your quote post? That would force people to go to the original post to discuss it. Oh, and...

With the amount of time focusing on things like that so close, young people now won't make it past middle age without issues. They'll develop far earlier in life. It was already happening with computer screens, with a phone being held so close as to occupy your FOV sufficiently for videos it's worse

You might get nearly the same field of view, but your focus is way different. You're stretching your lenses in your eyes to the extreme to focus up close, and they DO wear out. As someone who is old enough, and never wore glasses before, I know how it works. 20/20 became farsighted. However...

People are just barely being willing to wave flags, chant, sing, and shout at protests at state capitols and cities where ICE shows up. You think they're ready to show up en masse at an atrocity like that and start cutting chain link fences and risk life and limb to restore freedom? Not even close.
