OK I have made this (But not tried it yet). So many things I was not expecting: the dough is super sticky and hard to work with but then puffs up a lot. I dunno what size plums they expect but 4 bigger ones was more than enough. Smells good.

ICE forcing firefighters to stop battling a wildfire and make them all show their papers, then arresting some active firefighters and pulling them off the line shows there's no bottom. As @aselrod.bsky.social pointedly argues, it's nothing less than an "active assault on virtue wherever it exists."

Wouldn't even surprise me if efforts like this are worse for many of the affected reports of the former managers because their old ic "manager" usually retains the responsibilities just not the same training requirements or systems access, putting them in somewhat less supervised positions of power

The whole exercise (which I have been witness to at companies) is very seeing like a state/the map is not the territory bluster.
Camille Fournier (@skamille.themanagerswrath.com)
This piece is interesting. They were targeting people who managed "fewer than 3 people" in an effort to have "fewer managers", mostly an artifact of binary hr systems. Because managing 1 person flips the "manager" flag companies get weird about this. But I'd bet most of those were really senior ICs.

yeah like, I think that if I had a job where I had to do tedious repeatable stuff that really could lend itself to simple automation, I would like to think I would reach for those types of tools and that these will make a big difference to people. But I do wonder if it'll come to pass!
Camille Fournier (@skamille.themanagerswrath.com) reply parent
And the example you gave is work? Which I already agreed there's potential demand for, whether or not it'll be realized with these tools

But you could easily buy a security camera it's not like that's a product that doesn't exist
Camille Fournier (@skamille.themanagerswrath.com) reply parent
Outside of actual work I don't really think there's meaningful demand for making random shit ourselves from bits of code
Camille Fournier (@skamille.themanagerswrath.com) reply parent
I'm just not sure that anyone wants it you know? Either the thing is a product worth at a minimum creating a cheap version of, or it's probably just a hobby thing that very few people will want even if it was easy to achieve
Camille Fournier (@skamille.themanagerswrath.com) reply parent
I just don't even know what I would want to automate unless it's directly about scaled work
Camille Fournier (@skamille.themanagerswrath.com) reply parent
I know how to program and I genuinely do not ever feel the need to do this sort of automation. I'm not convinced it's actually meaningfully useful most of the time.
