Ofc, xenophobic sentiment, policy & practice is embedded in Australian political institutions: George II's inauguration of 'The War on Terror' (first initiated by Reagan decades previously) & Fortress Australia form the general political context; the White Australia policy its historical background.
The government's proposed FOI Act amendments are out. Media has focused on the new submission fee, but far more alarming are changes making it easier for govt to block access to public information. Two in particular stand out:

In this context, it's also worthwhile recognising that the initial spark for the March for (White) Australia was the March for Humanity (in opposition to the genocide) on AUG 3, which attracted massive support (s/thing in the order of 2-300,000 ppl in SYD) & triggered an angry nationalist backlash.
Further, the Envoy's family trust has donated $50,000 to reactionary right-wing lobby group Advance, whose tireless promotion of xenophobic sentiment, along w that routinely engaged in by key segments of media & 'politics', helps to nurture the sentiments the neo-Nazis are only too happy to utilise.
By the same token, Australia's Special Envoy to Combat Antisemitism has refused to comment on the March or its neo-Nazi leadership, & in official discourse opposition to antisemitism is largely identified w support for the Israeli state, currently engaged in a genocidal campaign against Palestine.
2025: The neo-Nazis are now explicitly & volubly so, w a smol but larger following, & a basic mvmnt infrastructure. Tepid (chiefly optical) criticisms of 'Nazism' by some within the combined forces of Reclaim & c00kerdom contends w an overwhelming degree of ignorance & apologetics.
2015: 'As for the UPF, while a coalition of neo-Nazis, fascists & fundamentalist Xtians may seem unstable, it’s proven to be reasonably effective: since his takeover of the mvmnt from the Great Aussie Patriot, Cottrell’s espousal of Nazi politics has received barely a mention, let alone complaints.'

The inevitable has happened: Disconnect is back on Ghost after trying Substack again. I didn’t just ditch another US tech platform; I learned the Substack network isn’t as helpful as it used to be, and certainly doesn’t justify putting up with the platform’s support for Nazis.
I also try to approach the issue w a certain degree of humour. This ESCs some, who occasionally misread this as evidence of a lack of srsness or reflection on my part. In reality, it's one of the things that help keep me sane (and alive). And fascists hate being ridiculed.
