The best of the pinholes. Still over exposed, but I love how taking a photo with a mere thread of light turns what was a bright touristy ice cream of day (a very busy pub just down the trail) into the opening of Great Expectations or the finale of The Essex Serpent.

Back on the Enys Men Blu ray. The disc includes a very good director's audio diary you play over the film. Recorded during lockdown when the shoot was pushed by a year, including planning a first draft of Rose of Nevada, and then into socially distanced prep and shoot on Enys Men. Good stuff..!

The Barbican Centre has never to my knowledge hosted a screening of Penda's Fen, but that changes today. It's sold out, I'm happy to say, but I expect there will be a small number of tix at the box office if you want to queue early. And do say hello! (Find me in the Two Brewers after, probably.)

We've found 6 copies of the 'Analysing A Ghost By Electronic Means' tape, inspired by 'The Stone Tape' (1972). It's a 16 track collection & comes with sleeve notes by the writer/comedian Stewart Lee. These are the final copies, bundled together with an A3 risograph print. hiddenbritain.bandcamp.com

I became a fan of George MacKay immediately following an early screening at the Barbican of Paul Wright's superb FOR THOSE IN PERIL (2014). With its haunted fishing community and flashes of coastal folklore, Jenkins's film sounds like something of a companion piece for sure, sign me up..!

Film Time! Watched Filipino supernatural revenge drama ITIM (1976). A real treat seeing the very classically Gothic setup transposed to rural Phillipines, replete with Holy Week rituals. Elegantly directed and wonderful use of shadow to generate a sombre and uncanny atmosphere. Top notch..!

Sad to hear of the passing last week of Mike de Leon. I came to his work earlier this year thanks to ITIM's inclusion in the second All The Haunts Be Ours boxset, and seperate release of KISAPMATA from Severin. Both excellent, supremely well-crafted flicks, I hope to track down more of his work...
