The game had blood, lots of monsters, but the kicker for me was a brutally animated (for the time) death scene where a monstrous mosquito drained your entire body into a limp husk. (Not pictured, the rain of deadly frogs was the best I could do in a pinch.)

I feel like purchasing less physical media makes me less cognizant of what label any given artist might be on. I used to do deep dives on labels like Matador, Constellation, or Touch & Go back in the day, not as much anymore.
Discover Weekly is one of the only reasons I’m still subscribed to that hellhole. My algorithm has been marinating for YEARS, other services can’t touch it. Lately I’ve been listening to a lot of Pile (Kitchens & Bathrooms via Boston) and Kathryn Joseph (Tori Amos plus synths and implied violence).

It was pretty well packed. I don’t regret having been on the floor but I probably wouldn’t again. Even not having been involved in the altercation, my body is STILL sore from the show.
If it makes you feel better, you were safer at home because there was nearly a fight in the “pit.” Someone was getting REALLY aggro, pushing and shoving everyone around him really hard, and tried picking a fight with someone right beside me. For once I wasn’t directly involved in it, at least.
Mine is absolutely a bootleg, but at least decently made. I didn’t get suckered in by the $75 Supreme x Aphex Twine line earlier this year (ie they sold out before I could even consider overpaying for one).
They played the Excel center. Tickets sold out basically immediately, so I got gouged a bit when I got mine on resale. I was so close though!
I wore my Aphex Twin shirt to the Nine Inch Nails show on Sunday night and exactly two people recognized it, which I consider a win. Any more than that and I would’ve been socially anxious, any less and I would’ve questioned my wardrobe choice.
It’s so weird not having music friends at work now. There’s no one here who would even pretend to give a shit about the cool show I went to on Sunday night.

It works in a very pleasant way for me. I was unintentionally trying to channel a little of the earlier AFX/Aphex Twin light ambience. Not that I’m saying I’m in that arena at all, just pulling obvious influences.
This might be my favourite of this week’s little spree. It’s pleasant and feels closest to direct thought-to-“paper” of them.

Finally, the plan is for a March release. The Anglerfish is an album about drowning, because subtext is for the weak.
This has kind of lost steam, but there we have it. I guess if you’ve read this far, please know that this isn’t a subtweet of anyone I’m not directly related to. If you didn’t purchase my album, you probably at least indirectly supported me emotionally through its inception. And that’s a lot.
This is currently manifesting in my agonizing perfectionism with my work-in-eternal-progress second album. It isn’t enough to just be good, or something I enjoy. It has to be Real. The pursuit of that is all consuming, but ultimately means nothing.
I got a song on national tv. Isn’t that supposed to prove something? The joke was always “Glenn’s on TV” when I was a kid, but it was cruel and mocking, only invoked if there was a monkey on the television. I’d finally made it there on my own merits, changing nothing.
By this point in my adult life, though, I’d really only proven myself to be adept at two things: dropping out of college (twice) and selling overpriced batteries and TVs to townies. It felt good to be good at something again.
The message was clear: I wasn’t good. Or at least not good enough. I couldn’t make music as a career. The latter point of which was probably correct, and I’m sure was the actual sentiment, to protect me against a life as a starving, unsuccessful artist, not even fit to busk for a pittance.
Clearly that stuck with me.
I’m reminded of the time in the early 2000s, back when I first started making my own music, when I reached out to a small (now defunct) indie label and they agreed in principle to work with me in releasing some music through them. My mother’s reaction was to tell me to “temper my expectations.”
My parents were always (too?) willing to help out financially and with a basement to sleep, but never with things like this, more esoteric things.
To be clear, the thought came around because I was considering the prospect of being deported if the trade war continues/gets worse, and what I would do if that were to happen. Which led to the concept of familial support.
I recognize the selfishness inherent in this post, especially right now, but it comes at a time when my brain is seeking other things to stress about.
I know this isn’t important Right Now, but it still stings that no one in my family seemed to consider even a PITY purchase of my first album. I guess there’s a reason I never bothered sending it directly to any of them, and only a while after it had already been out. Bandcamp stats don’t lie.
Losing “clock app” for just one evening was weird, and now it feels extremely gross to use it. Maybe I need to just lose it for good.
