I don't see how this leads to profit. And I don't know what people are "getting hooked" by that will involve them paying the amount for them to actually not burn money. AWS was profitable in 3 years. And provides a service people needed.

The cases are disanalogous. Buying stuff through the Internet was an inherently decent idea, and costs were relatively stable. Amazon had a plan. Gen AI has no clear use plan and costs are higher and higher for marginal improvement.
