UPDATE: An excruciatingly long ICE Air flight kept individuals on board shackled for roughly 50 hours. In total, the flight made 6 deportation stops, including Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam.
A tired crew puts the planes at risk, including their passengers. Fatigue has been found to impact judgment similarly to being drunk. I have no sympathy for employees who opted to take this work on, but crashing planes and harming their passengers isn’t a line I’d like to cross.

My friends have kids in middle and high school, so they get an immersive firsthand perspective. I've been getting my perspective via undergrads who are interning with our team. Who sets fashion trends, and why? I've seen The Devil Wears Prada, but...what the fuck is up with barrel jeans? Just, WHY?
(Well, "I bought" = "my parents bought them for me," of course.) It wasn't until high school that I learned about straight-leg and boot-cut jeans AND long inseams. Maybe it's generational trauma, but I can't wear anything but dark blue (or other-colored) denim. No light blues for me anymore.
Then again, I've never liked skinny jeans and am Team Flares All The Way, so maybe don't consult me on fashion. I also wonder what our parents thought about our fashion sense. I should ask mine, if they even remember. I had zero clue. I bought too-short tapered jeans because I didn't know better.
A guy friend was literally like, "We fought so hard for ankle socks over crew socks! Why are they back now?!" There are ways to wear those styles that still look great (I have a coworker that pulls them off beautifully). And then there are ways that are SO awkward, even more so than in the 80s.
One fun part of reuniting with my old friends: ranting about the younguns' fashion, and then realizing how old that makes us sound. (But seriously, acid-washed jeans? White chunky sneakers? What the fuck are those deeply unflattering barrel jeans? And apparently crew socks are coming back?!)

Seattle really is a city of contradictions. While Pittsburgh wears its heart on its sleeve. But WA's's (and especially Seattle's) leftist politics in this day and age make moving anywhere else a hard sell. I hope this weekend refreshes me and pumps me up to pursue making friends back in Seattle.
In Seattle, I'm really enjoying my neighborhood's local cafes and hangouts, but it's all apartment buildings and that much less personable. However, my building's vibe is SO MUCH friendlier than my previous Eastside/Issaquah complex, which was absolutely The Seattle Chill embodied.
Squirrel Hill, though...it's SO old. But it's truly My Neighborhood. (It's also literally Mr. Roger's Neighborhood - he grew up there!) And it's why Forbes/Murray is one of the two big meeting points for rallies and protests in the city. The entire neighborhood is one big Third Place.
But Pittsburgh is such an old city. (Houses are listed as being built in 1900 because the true age isn't documented.) Atlanta, my ACTUAL hometown, feels artificially new to me, while 150-year-old Seattle feels classic and refreshed. And THE NATURAL BEAUTY. I miss the mountains and the sound already.
Like...the people already feel genuinely kinder in Pittsburgh. I know the soul of this city and that casual engagements here run a little deeper. Seattle, on the other hand, embodies the US version of Japan's tatemae/honne (public-facing politeness vs. real feelings).
I know why I miss Pittsburgh, and I know why I left, and both things are poignantly evident this weekend. It's a rough spot in which to find myself. There are things I really love about Seattle. I didn't realize that until now. But it doesn't feel like "home" the way PGH does.
