Weird thing is, my grandfather hardly ever drank any alcohol at all & when he did, it was a a single can of beer. As I understand it, my dad's parents were heavy drinkers until they got religion & became Catholic, but in my lifetime, alcohol was never much of a thing on either side of my family.
My paternal grandparents converted to Catholicism when my dad was a senior in HS (my dad refused to, much to my grandmother's chagrin). My maternal grandparents were very heavily involved in Shrine/Eastern Star. It made for some interesting family dynamics.
