On that note, I could use advice on whether to include more active learning in my class. I’ve heard current students hate it (I suspect because they can’t rely on ChatGPT). If I do it, I won’t have any support from colleagues or bosses, and I’ll have to take 100% of the L if it fails. Worth trying?

Hey, #MathSky, which human-written OER textbooks for multivariable calculus do you recommend? I use and like OpenStax, but I feel ready to try infusing my course materials with more books’ approaches. Strang goes too hard for my audience and they‘d likely resist Schlicker’s focus on activities.

An old expression I just learned: 「お臍がお茶を沸かす。」 “My belly button boils tea.” The speaker is laughing so hard that their navel is producing enough friction to heat tea to boiling. The tone is bullying/hectoring so like most manga/anime Japanese, never seriously say it. But it’s weirdly niche bullying.

Gambit actually did get kicked out of the X-Men when his secrets came to light, which seems hypocritical. Changeling, Banshee, Magneto, Rogue, and Sabretooth had all gone from villains to X-Men by then. Hell, Marrow was joining while Gambit was being fired.

I miswrote it in the OP, but even the correct version is really difficult. Here's what I got, working off that video.

Suppose is a cubic function with a leading coefficient of that has the following property. For the function , there does not exist an integer such that . If and , find the value of . Consider the shape of the graph of From the description, we know we have a cubic function, and its local maximum must occur to the left of its local minimum. If we set , we can find that the derivative is always non-negative when . These are not the cubic functions we are looking for, as we know we need a negative derivative at . We only want cubic functions where . The condition has no effect on the end behavior of our cubic function. If is a large negative number, then is the product of two large negative numbers, which is positive. Similarly, if is a large positive number, then is the product of two large positive numbers, which is positive. We are concerned about the region near and between the local maximum and local minimum. There must exist a largest integer such that . In that case, the only way to meet the condition is to enture that . By the same token, there must exist a smallest positive number such that , so . In order to make the condition work, there must exist at least two zeros at adjacent integers. At least one zero must be . Identify the number of distinct zeros Consider cases of two distinct zeros If we had two distinct zeros, then or . In the former case, if , then and , so that's not what we want. In the latter case, creates a quadratic equation of that has no real solutions. Consider cases of three distinct zeros If there exist three distinct zeros, can be neither the leftmost nor the rightmost zero, as this would make it so that . We arrive at three cases. We'll list the roots in ascending order. Consider cases of three distinct zeros If there exist three distinct zeros, can be neither the leftmost nor the rightmost zero, as this would make it so that . We arrive at three cases. I remember an interview with Daniel Knauf: he said the town would have an “omega male” whom everyone makes fun of. He described the town as “socialistic that way.” To this day, I wonder how he’d make the characters likable in spite of that. And where he got the idea that socialism is high school.

If you feel like remembering Graham Greene at his most fun, you could do worse than Wolf Lake. It’s a cool pre-fame reel for Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Paul Wesley too. It’s a Twin Peaks knockoff with werewolves by a die-hard ”friend of Abe” showrunner, so it’s not, you know, good. But still.

That Melania nude popped up in my feed again through no action of my own and I’m so far beyond over it. Maybe Eva Braun had the bangingest rack in the universe but I wouldn’t know because I don’t want to see someone naked who knowingly fucked one of the most evil people who ever lived.

These two supervillains dropped around the same time, Nemesis and Genesis. Genesis, a.k.a. Tolliver, was Cable’s son and Apocalypse’s usurpative heir in this universe. Nemesis, a.k.a. Holocaust, was Apocalypse’s loyal son who came from an alternate universe. It’s as corny and confusing as it sounds.

Genesis. Nemesis.

I didn’t go to brain doctor school, but I really remember learning that brain damage doesn’t heal. Superheroes may dominate American pop culture because we’ve created psychological conditions that incur a yearning for polytheism, but there’s “heal faster” and there’s “heal at all.”
