There’s very few things as intimidating to a high-energy person than a 7+ hour flight, so, please wish me luck (or reply with your most interesting thoughts, deepest secrets, or burning questions while I am stuck here).
I don’t believe in shielding myself from the reality of war in a country I love so deeply. We have to see, we have to know, because that is the only way to to be honest about what we are continuing to permit.
The reason I still prefer Twitter over Bluesky is because it’s how I keep up with news about Ukraine. And that includes the daily reminders that while we sit around doing liberal discourse, Russia attempts to bomb Ukraine out of existence.

SCOTUS will hear an Illinois case that could decide whether federal candidates have the legal right to challenge election laws in court. The GOP candidates who brought the case argue the state’s 14-day grace period harms their chances of winning.

There’s a trend I’ve noticed I with millennials on down of referring to “the recession,” but I’m not confident it’s being used accurately. Its more likely just a sign of individual frustration coupled with recalling their parents using the term in 2008.

If I were a Democrat in Congress, I’d introduce a bill prohibiting federal law enforcement agents from intentionally hiding their identity unless required to perform a specific job duty. B/c this is meant to instill fear and avoid liability for bad acts. It NEEDS to stop.

Of course there’s also been moments of stress and self-doubt. I’d be remiss to pretend otherwise. However, it pales in comparison to the excitement I have for the job, the pride and respect I have for my clients, and my passion for the work. It feels good. Here’s to sophomore year!
Today marks one year at my firm! In the past year, I’ve litigated in the Ohio Supreme Court, worked on statewide ballot measures, watched our clients win elections, defended voting rights and ballot access, and learned so, so much from the best in the business.
Was worried I was terrible and everyone hates me and then I remembered no, that’s not true, I’m just tired and forgot to eat lunch. At the end of the day, we are all walking, talking houseplants. If you’re wilting, get some water, food, and sunshine and you’ll be just fine. 😅
But part of me still wonders how much of the nihilism I see in Columbus can be traced back to this summer and our collective failure to follow through on those promises. We made progress, but there’s still so much still to do. Five years. Crazy.
That night, and many others after, forced me to consider what happens when law and justice fail to reach the same conclusion, and what my obligations are to my community as a lawyer and an individual. I attribute so much of my growth for being forced to confront these questions.
Five years ago today, I was tear-gassed on the steps of the Statehouse while volunteering as a legal observer at a protest for George Floyd. It escalated faster than anyone could’ve imagined, as lifetimes’ worth of anger and grief met force. I still lack the words to describe it.
